Chapter 834: I Have Someone I Like

After listening to Lane, Bonnie smiled and replied, "That's true, but you don't have to come over frequently. There are usually plenty of people around during the day, and they take turns to be with me."

Lane looked at Bonnie when he heard her words and raised his gaze. "Does that mean you don't welcome me?"

Bonnie was taken aback for a moment, then shook her head repeatedly, saying, "No, it's not that. I just think you work so hard, and when you finally have some rest, you shouldn't come over to my place. Just stay at home and take a good rest."

"It's alright, I'm not that tired. Besides, I have to go on a business trip in a couple of days, so we might not be able to see each other for a long time," Lane whispered.

"Did you take another case?" Bonnie asked.

"It's some economic disputes, quite challenging to handle, so it might take a while," Lane explained.

"Your profession seems quite demanding. Make sure you take enough rest during normal times," Bonnie commented.

While the two were chatting, someone knocked on the door of the hospital room. "Miss Cooke, it's time for your check-up. Let's go to the examination room now."

Bonnie acknowledged the nurse's words and then looked at Lane. "You stay here for a while; I'll be back soon."

"I'll accompany you," Lane stood up and whispered to Bonnie.

"No need, men are not allowed in the examination room," Bonnie replied.

Lane nodded, "Alright, I'll wait for you here."

"Okay."

As Bonnie left, Lane's phone started ringing.

Seeing the caller ID, Lane furrowed his brow slightly. He answered the call just as it was about to end. "Mom."

"Where did you disappear early in the morning? I tried calling several times, and couldn't reach you. Anyone would think you've vanished from the face of the Earth," Mrs. Phillips's voice came through the phone, with a hint of reproach.

Listening to Mrs. Phillips, Lane rubbed his temples with his hand and asked, "Is there something you need, Mom?"

"Didn't I tell you that we have guests coming today and asked you to stay at home?" Mrs. Phillips's voice held a hint of calculation.

Lane naturally knew what Mrs. Phillips was up to. "Mom, I understand that you're concerned about my personal matters, but you also know about my work. Most of the year, I'm traveling all over the world, rarely staying in one place. If I follow your plan, it will only inconvenience the other party."

"Why don't you take fewer cases from other cities and handle more cases in Manches City? What about that person, Uncle Lee's son? He's a lawyer in Manches City and seems to be doing well. Why do you always have to go elsewhere? Your dad and I are getting older, and we would like to see you settle down. Can't you consider our feelings?" Mrs. Phillips lectured Lane over the phone, leaving him speechless.

"Mom, if it were just a regular visit, I could immediately come back. But if it's about those arranged blind dates like before, there's no need. I have someone I like," Lane said earnestly.

Upon hearing Lane's words, Mrs. Phillips was momentarily stunned. "You're dating someone?"

"Not yet, but I will try my best. So, could you please stop arranging those meaningless blind dates for me?" Lane requested sincerely.

Mrs. Phillips fell silent for a few seconds. "Then come back today. You know this girl too. I heard you were classmates before, and I think she's not bad. Even if you don't like her, we've already scheduled the meeting for today. It won't hurt to meet her, right?"

Since the conversation had reached this point, Lane couldn't really refuse any further. After hesitating for a while, he finally responded, "Fine, I got it. I'll definitely be back before noon."

Upon hearing Lane's agreement, Mrs. Phillips smiled and hung up the phone.

...

Manches City Detox Center.

Zane parked the car at the entrance and glanced in the direction of the center. "Are you going in?"
