Into Darkness novel Chapter 1

Chaos.

Complete and utter chaos.

People were crying and screaming.

And I? I was running for my god damned life.

•••

20 minutes earlier...

"I can't believe we won!" I screeched and hugged my twin.

I was grinning widely and jumping up and down.

Why? You may ask.

Because I just won the annual Easter challenge.

You basically had to drop an egg from the top of the school without breaking it.

It was rather lame, but since We won, we also won 250 pounds each, so I certainly wasn't complaining.

With this money I finally could afford the motor cycle I'd been longing for and I was thrilled.

"Me neither! I can buy so much pizza with this money" Amber fake drooled and I laughed.

"You better give me some too" I teased her, lifting an eyebrow and letting her know that I'm a little bit serious.

"As long as you let me ride on your MC" She retorted with a smirk.

"Yeah, yeah..." I rolled my eyes and she playfully hit my shoulder.

We were on the way home to tell our parents the news.

I smiled when I heard the birds sing and felt the sun kiss my skin.

This day couldn't get any better.

We soon arrived at our house and I rang the doorbell, waiting for either our Mia or Sandra to open.

Yes, we had two mums.

Our biological mum was 15 when she got us, so Mia and Sandra adopted us.

When no one opened, I frowned and glanced over to my sister, she was mirroring my expression.

"They're probably taking a walk or something" Amber calmed me and I nodded.

She grabbed her keys, but when she was about to open it she stopped.

"What's wrong?" I asked her curiously.

"The door wasn't locked" She whispered, panic clear in her eyes.

"It's probably nothing, they just forgot to lock, that's all" I tried to assure her and myself.

I opened the door and slowly entered the hall.

"Maybe you can send Mia a text?" I suggested, I didn't want to worry Amber, but our parents never went for walks when they knew we were coming home from school.

You see, our parents worked night shifts at the hospital and they usually left for work when we went to sleep.

And by now they most definitely would have woken up.

"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea" She agreed and started to tap on her phone.

I froze when I heard something crash upstairs.

I looked over at Amber in panic.

"RUN" I yelled and both Amber and me practically flew down the stairs, I didn't dare to look back, but I heard someone walking down the stairs behind us.

Amber swung the door open and when I closed it, I could see the man trying to make his way down the stairs, but failing miserably.

"LOCK IT, LOCK THE GOD DAMNED DOOR!" I yelled and Amber locked it with shaking fingers.

"We have to get out of here" She said and I nodded.

My eyes turned dark when I heard the sound of a child yelling.

And then a woman.

And another child.

I looked around in panic and saw people running out of their houses everyone screaming and yelling.

And then I saw them.

At least 20 people, both men and woman were slowly walking towards the houses out of the woods, everyone had greenish skin and some of them seemed to miss body parts or have big wounds all over their bodies.

"What are we going to do?" Amber cried out and I took her hand while frantically looking around.

I didn't know what to do, more and more of these people seemed to come out of the woods.

"We'll just have to run" I said and let go of her hand.

Chaos.

Complete and utter chaos.

People are crying and screaming.

And I? I was running for my god damned life.
