The way back to the cabin was quiet and uneventful. Lucas ran next to me the whole way, but he didn't try to start a conversation, he probably realized I didn't feel like talking.
Is life even worth living in a world like this? Everyone I cared about seemed to be gone.
I walked into the house again, not greeting anyone. I just dropped the backpack at the floor and walked upstairs and say down in the guest room Lucas carried me too earlier.
I sat down in the corner of the room and brought my knees to my chin.
I rested my forehead against my knees and I once again felt warm tears leaving my eyes.
Just a minute later, I heard someone knock on the door.
I didn't answer or bother to look up, but the person opened the door and walked in anyways.
I was expecting the person to speak, but instead he or she only sat down next to me.
I glanced over at the person and saw that it was Lucas. I didn't know why, but it made me happy.
He was looking at me with piercing green eyes. They were filled with worry and confusion.
I sat up with my legs in front of me instead and leaned against the wall.
I used the sleeve on my shirt to dry my face from all the tears.
I looked up at him with big eyes and he tilted his head.
"Uhm... Here's your gun. Kylie tried to take it, but I told her it was yours" He handed me the gun and I smiled slightly.
"Who's Kylie? I can't remember" Everyone said their names earlier today, when we were on our way to this cabin, but we were over 30 people and my memory wasn't the best.
"The girl with short brown hair" He said and I clenched my jaw.
"Of course it was her, who else would take the nicest gun for her self just like that?" I muttered, pursing my lips.
"My gun is much cooler" He bragged and I let a smile form on my lips.
"Haha, no" I cockily replied and he grinned, pleased with himself to have gotten me on in a better mood.
I scooped a little bit closer to him and rested my head on his shoulder.
"What do you prefer to be called; Lucas or Luke? Or... Aha; Lucky!" I asked him out of the blue.
"Uhm..." He chuckled. "I don't know, my friends usually say Luke or Lucas, but I guess you can call me Lucky if you'd like" He looked rather amused and I felt glad that he let me have my own nickname for him.
"Just because you're so lucky to be my friend" I added grinning and he rolled his eyes, but I could see that he was joking.
"Yeah, yeah. Don't get ahead of yourself now"
I pushed his shoulder and he bursted out laughing.
I leaned my head against him again and closed my eyes.
"Thank you" I mumbled.
"For what?" His raspy voice asked.
"For being here for me" I whispered quietly.
•••
When I opened my tired eyes I was greeted by a dark room.
I looked around myself and saw that I was placed on a mattress next to a few other sleeping people.
When I looked closer I could see that the person sleeping next to me had curly hair and I immediately recognized it as Lucas'. I also saw a smaller figure just next to him and smiled when I saw that it was Harry.
