Chapter 54 Not A Wingman
Micah took a deep breath.
He remained where he was and did not chase after Darya.
If she was brave enough to admit her mistake, then so was he.
She might have schemed her way into his life, but she’d never done anything to harm him.
When Micah gave her the cold shoulder, he’d also lost a valuable chance to get to know her.
The sound of music jolted him out of his reverie.
The next dance was about to begin.
As Micah made his way through the crowd, he pondered how he could start to repair his relationship with her.
Ryan found his friend at the bar, nursing a glass of whiskey.
He planted a hip on the stool next to Micah. ‘Why aren’t you dancing?”
‘Not interested.”
But you danced with that woman.”
Micah shot him a disapproving look. ‘She has a name.”
Ryan shrugged. ‘Is it true? Are you really going to work with her?”
‘I’m not working with her, Micah said. ‘Zenith is working with Paragon. It’s business.‘
‘Come on, you can tell me the truth. Ryan leaned in. ‘Are you serious about getting back together with her?‘
Micah said nothing.
But Ryan had known him long enough.
Micah’s silence was equivalent to consent.
Ryan’s eyes widened. ‘Stop pulling my leg. You can’t be serious.”
Frowning, Micah asked, “What’s so unusual about me wanting to date a woman?‘
‘If it’s anyone else, nothing. But if it’s you, then it’s a humongous deal‘ Ryan spread out both arms as if to illustrate how big a deal this was. ‘I thought you weren’t interested in dating. You told me so yourself.‘
As one of the youngest CEOS in Hagen, Micah had long been ranked top among the most eligible bachelor the metropolis.
Whenever he attended a public event, women from the ages of eighteen to eighty would flock towards him, giving him the glad eye.

But Micah never showed any interest.
Zenith was still in its early stage.
He wanted to focus on business.
But the more he turned down the women’s advances, the crazier they got.
After being almost drugged at a dinner party, Micah finally enlisted Ryan’s help.
Ryan’s job was the opposite of a wingman–he was supposed to help Micah repel women, not attract them.
His jaw almost dropped when Micah married Darya.
He felt partly responsible for letting a woman who was clearly a gold digger get close to his friend.
The guilt was the main reason why he was so hostile towards Darya.
He was relieved when Micah and Darya were divorced.
But he couldn’t understand why Micah wanted to get back together with her.
When he voiced his doubt out loud, Micah said, ‘Because I find her to be interesting.‘
‘But why?‘ Ryan was seriously puzzled. ‘Does she have something on you?‘
Micah ignored him.
Ryan was undeterred.
He thought out loud, ‘You, Avery and Timothy are all interested in her. But why? What’s so special about her?‘
He waved away a girl in a red dress who wanted to strike up a conversation.
‘Maybe I should do some digging,‘ Ryan talked to himself. ‘Is she a witch? Can she cast spells? Is that how she got three of the most sought–after bachelors in Hagen to chase after her?‘
Micah smiled into his glass of whiskey.
He decided not to remind his friend that Darya still had photos of him stripped down to his boxers.
If Ryan tried to do anything to her, he would be the one who ended up losing.
Micah finished his drink.
He rose to his feet and patted Ryan on his shoulder. ‘Just stay away from her.‘
Then he strode away.
One drink was the limit he set for himself tonight.
There were more business associates to meet.
While Ryan let his imagination run wild, Darya was discreetly making her way out of the ballroom.
Socialising and making small talk was not her strong suit.
She had gotten what she came for.

Darya decided to take a page out of her brother’s playbook and leave the party early
The murmured comments about her, Avery and Micah did not escape her notice.
She knew her personal life had become fodder for gossip, but she wasn’t bothered by it.
She’d rather spend her time doing something productive.
Darya placed her empty glass on a passing waiter’s tray.
Just as she was about to leave, a familiar figure appeared in the doorway, grinning
She smiled and waited for him to approach. ‘What are you doing here?‘
‘Attending Reece’s son’s birthday party, same as you,‘ Timothy said. ‘I was invited, remember?‘
‘I do.‘ Darya handed him a glass of champagne and teased him, ‘I also remember someone said he’d be coming
with me.‘
Timothy touched his nose and shrugged sheepishly. ‘I was detained. Besides, you have Avery.‘
He had asked Darya to attend the party with him, but Avery returned from his business trip just in time.
Timothy didn’t insist on coming with her since he knew both she and Avery needed to talk business with Reece.
But now it appeared that her work was done.
