Encounter

Timothy stepped forward.

Even he could sense the hostility coming from the three women walking towards them, especially the one in

the middle.

Talia launched the attack. “Timothy, I’m surprised you’d mingle with Miss Miller. Don’t you know who she is?‘

Timothy responded with a lopsided grin.

The fact that Talia still addressed Darya as Miss Miller showed that she was the ignorant one.

He thrust both hands into his pants pockets. ‘Of course I do.‘

“Then you should know that she used to be Micah’s wife.‘

‘So?‘ Timothy raised an eyebrow. ‘Like you said, “used to be,” which means she’s no longer involved with him.‘

‘But she-‘

Felicia pushed her friend aside.

She pointed a finger at Darya. ‘My brother’s never getting back together with you!”

She still believed Darya was here for Micah, even though she came with Avery.

Darya frowned. ‘Didn’t your parents teach you it’s rude to point at people?‘

Timothy slapped Felicia’s hand away.

Felicia’s face was flushed scarlet.

She’d had two glasses of champagne.

The alcohol was now rushing to her head.

She forgot about Micah’s warning to stay away from Darya. ‘Did you hear me? My brother’s never getting back together with you. Don’t you ever try to approach him again.‘

Darya smiled sardonically. ‘You should tell your brother that.‘

She was ready to move on, but it appeared that Micah wasn’t.

Absently, she wondered what he would think if he knew his sister was trying to meddle in his relationships. From what she knew of him, Micah detested people who played games behind his back.

‘If you are not interested in him, why did you dance with him?‘ Felicia demanded.

Chapter 35 DRUNKEN ENCOUNter

‘Yeah.‘ Talia backed up her friend. ‘We all saw the kiss.‘

‘What kiss?‘ Darya shook her head. ‘We didn’t kiss.‘

Darya recalled the way Micah’s lips brushed against her earlobe.

It wasn’t a kiss, in her view.

‘We all saw it!‘ Felicia yelled.

Guests within earshot glanced her way, but she didn’t notice.

Her face was growing redder and redder, a combined result of the alcohol, anger, and the patches of rouge on

her cheeks.

If she were a cartoon character, there would be smoke coming out of both ears right now.

Darya was amused by Felicia’s reaction.

While she was married to Micah, Felicia either treated her like dirt or ignored her completely.

Now that Darya was divorced, Felicia seemed to have developed a new habit of antagonising her ex–sister–in–law,

though she often ended up making a fool of herself.

‘Stop daydreaming!‘ Felicia was still shouting. ‘Hell will freeze over before I allow my brother to take

back!”

She had spent days preparing for the party, ready to dazzle the guests with her new dress and brilliant makeup.

But Darya stole the limelight once again.

And that wasn’t the worst part of it.

After Darya and Micah’s dance, everyone started talking about them, speculating if they were back together.

Even Talia asked her about it.

Thinking of this, Felicia felt her anger rise.

She would not allow that woman back in her house, ever!

Darya shook her head when Timothy took her hand and gestured for her to leave.

She wasn’t bothered by Felicia.

In fact, she rather welcomed Felicia’s sudden outburst.

Felicia’s hostile attitude towards her would put to rest the rumour about her and Micah.

After all, Felicia was Micah’s sister.

Outsiders tended to believe her if she said Micah wasn’t interested in Darya.

So Darya remained where she was and listened patiently to Felicia’s harangue.

To her satisfaction, she noted more guests slowly making their way in this direction.

She was confident that before the party was over, the rumour would be quashed.

Chapter 55 Drunken Encounter

The calmer Darya was, the angrier Felicia grew

Her wrath peaked when she saw Timothy and Darya holding hands.

Enraged, she pointed a shaking finger at them. ‘How dare you cheat on my brother!”

Darya was rendered speechless.

Even Timothy realised that Felicia was drunk out of her mind,

He took his cue from Darya and said nothing.

Their silence was tantamount to an admission of their relationship,

Felicia stomped her feet. ‘How could you do that to my brother? How could you cheat on him?‘

Darya sighed. ‘Miss Cavanaugh, I am no longer Micah’s wife. I’m free to date whomever I like. How is that cheating?

She tilted her head and smiled. ‘It’s only cheating if Micah and I are still together. Is that what you are implying?”

Talia nudged her friend and whispered, ‘People are watching us!”

Felicia shook off Talia’s hand. ‘Ha! You just admitted you are still in love with my brother!‘

Darya and Timothy exchanged an amused look.

Felicia was too drunk to notice the strange looks from guests nearby.

‘Speaking of cheating,‘ Darya said, ‘I suggest you talk to your brother. He has experience in that area, after all.‘

The small crowd around them was buzzing with murmured conversations.

Most of them had seen the photo of Micah and Regina.

Once again, they were reminded of the reason for Darya’s divorce–Micah cheated on her.
