Micah’s voice was low and hoarse. ‘Are you serious?‘

Darya smiled. ‘As a heart attack.‘

‘But what can you do with the blood? You don’t need it.‘

‘I don’t, but a lot of others do.‘ Darya shrugged, ‘You know how rare my blood type is 1 donated to, I ge away so much of my blood to that woman over the past three years. I would have been okay via if the really needed it. After all, you paid me a lot of money.‘

Micah tried to explain, ‘Regina is prone to injuries-‘

‘Save it. You and I both know she faked those injuries. Need I remind you of what happened the last time you summoned me to the hospital?‘

Micah fell silent.

‘I’m sure you remember Doctor Patel.‘ Darya thought of the doctor at Hagen General who colluded with Regina to fake her medical reports.

She wondered what Micah did with that man.

‘I’ve already returned the payments to you,‘ Darya continued. ‘And now it’s time to return the blood.”

Darya had done some research.

AB negative was the rarest blood type.

Its plasma could help treat patients of all blood types.

Finding new donors had always been a challenge.

The amount of platelets she donated each time could help up to three adults or twelve children.

Darya didn’t regret forcing Micah to marry her, but she did regret letting so much precious blood go to waste.

Regina wasn’t even sick.

She just had a twisted mind.

Darya glanced at the table full of dishes.

‘Boss?‘ Norris sounded confused.

‘Just do it.‘

Yes, boss.‘

The medical records were stored as digital files.

Five minutes later, Norris called back with the answer. ’18,450 millilitres. That’s roughly equivalent to the full amount of blood from four adults.‘

Micah couldn’t believe what he was hearing. ‘Are you sure?‘

He didn’t need the answer–Norris never made simple mistakes like this.

His assistant replied calmly, ‘Yes, boss, I’m sure. On average, Miss Miller gave around 450 millilitres of whole blood for each transfusion. In total, she made fifty–one such transfusions.‘

Micah’s brain automatically worked out the math.

Fifty–one transfusions meant Darya gave blood almost every other week.

This went on for three years.

And he was the one who summoned her to the hospital.

Micah gripped his phone.

‘Boss, is there anything else?‘ Norris waited for his next order. His voice jolted Micah back to the present. ‘Nothing. That’s all.‘

Micah thought back to the times he asked Darya to go to the hospital.

She always looked so pale and moved slowly.

He thought she was just faking it to get his attention.

After he found out about Dr Patel’s collusion with Regina, he did some research.

In order to fully recover from the side effects of giving blood, it was recommended that the donor wait eight weeks between donations.

But Patel never informed him of that.

Whenever Regina suffered from a fake injury, Patel would call him, then he would call Darya.

There was one time she had to give blood less than forty–eight hours after having just done so.

Micah wished he could travel back in time and give himself a huge slap in the face.

He was being led around the nose by Regina and Patel like a fool.

And Darya paid the price for it.

All of this was his doing.

Micah blew out a breath.

He started to seriously consider Darya’s condition.

But would Regina agree to do it?
