Summer Frost POV 

I knew going to his family wasn’t an option for me, but I had nowhere to go and I was hoping they allowed me to stay with them at least until I was able to sort things out with my husband. 

‘There is no place for you in my house, you shameless whore!”

“I told my grandson not to marry such a lowlife but he didn’t listen to me. Look how things turned out now‘ Not even his grandmother stood by me. Everyone in his family resented me as if I was a plague. 

I sat on the bench at the bus stop amid the freezing morning cold as I dialed his number, hoping he’d listen to me this time, but I was only dreaming. A dream that would never come true. 

“Don’t you 

dare call my number again,” The hatred in his voice as he spoke to me on the phone broke my heart into shreds. I couldn’t shed a drop of tears as my eyes were dried up. 

I was freezing to the bone. I couldn’t even grab a single cloth from the house when he threw me out, I was out here in the cold with nothing but just a robe on, not even a penny on me. How did my life end up like this? 

“Why don’t you go to your family? You would ask me, but do you think I wouldn’t go to them if I had one? For a girl who was said to have been abandoned at the orphanage at just a few months old, moved out at eighteen to cater for herself and had since been living on the edge of a sword for years trying to survive, who was I to run to? No one. 

Again, I dialed Xander’s number event needed him the most 

though I knew that there was no hope for me. Just as I had expected, he ignored my call. Xander ignored me when 

“Don’t sleep, Summer… You can’t sleep,” I cuddled myself up and tried to keep my eyes open. 

“You have to hang in there for the sake of your baby,” I reminded myself, but I couldn’t take it anymore. The cold had already penetrated and rendered 

bones numb, my eyelids were becoming heavier with every second that passed until I could barely keep my eyes open. 

“Hang in there for your child, Summer. You can’t give up,” Even when darkness came looming, I tried to be hopeful until I couldn’t take it anymore.

“Am I going to die?” The only question that lingered on my mind as my vision slowly went blurry until I blacked out. 

The blurry figure of someone towering over me welcomed me as I forced my eyes open. For a moment, I thought I had died and gone to the other world, but that thought only lasted for seconds until my vision became clear and I found myself in a strange room. 

“You are awake? Thank goodness,” Came a masculine voice that made me tilt my head in the direction to find a man in his sixties, seated beside me on the bed and looking at me with concern on 

his 

face. 

“Are you ok? Are you feeling any 

my pain? Should I call the doctor?” The man asked me as he held my hand, but I stared back at him blankly. Although his face looked familiar, I couldn’t place where I had seen the face before now. Who is this man? Where is this place? I asked myself 

“Who are you? Where am I?” My voice came out weakly as I managed to sit up on the bed, and that was when I saw the large spacious room was inside Could it be that I was in another world? I wondered as I looked around. This couldn’t be Earth, right? 

“You are safe now,” He smiled at me.

Chapter 2 

“Who are you?” I asked again, curious to know the identity of this man. 

“You must’ve forgotten me, I understand. I have been looking for you for months. I am the man you saved on the road months ago,” My jaw dropped shockingly when he introduced himself to me. Six months ago, I had given mouth–to–mouth resuscitation to a man who had an asthma attack on my way from the hospital where I used to work as an intern. I had forgotten the man’s face although he looked familiar when I first saw him.
