The look of shock on his face couldn’t have lied, right?
“Wh. What are you”
“I guess I wasn’t supposed to find out, right? Oh, yes… That’s right,” I scoffed and rolled my eyes as I managed to sit on the chair,
“Summer
“Is that why you’ve been acting like you realized your mistake? You never loved or missed me, did you? To you… I was only a cheat who lived in your heart all these years and that only changed the moment you found out the truth, isn’t it?” A drop of tears slid down my cheek because fuck! It really hurt.
His lips trembled as they opened. Maybe he could not come up with anything to say to me. What would he possibly say?
“…” He paused and swallowed whatever was stuck in his throat.
“Did you want to protect her that much?” Though the question was ridiculous considering the fact that she was his mom and knowing how much he had always loved her, but I could not help it. This was injustice, she should be arrested and made to pay for it the moment he found out. At the very least, the Xander I knew would do that. The Xander I knew would never allow anyone to walk on his emotions like that, but I guess it was different. What should I have expected?
“It’s not that, Summer… I swear it, that’s not the case. I didn’t know how to face you. I didn’t know-
“You’ve been facing me, Xander. You’ve been to my house severally. Why don’t you admit that you wanted to bury everything and still have me back? Why don’t you just admit that you wanted to eat your cake and still have it?” I rose to my feet and snarled at him.
“That woman ruined my life. I almost died and it was all because of her. And now you are protecting her?” I scoffed, and he exhaled.
“She is my
y mother, Summer. That woman gave birth to me. That woman raised me… She sacrificed everything for me. I’m not trying to defend her, but! was held in a tight corner… I was hand
i c e d… Life gave me a choice to protect my Mom and I could not just throw it away,” He shook his head as a drop of tears slid down his cheek.
“I know I am being greedy, but… I wasn’t going to hide it forever… I was going to tell you the truth and have her apologize to you-
“Why
Why do I have to be the only one to suffer this, Xander? Why do I have to be the only victi
m here?” I tried to hold back my tears, but failed woefully
“My Mom… She is already regretting everything she ever did…”
“And you think it’s enough even if she has to pay with her life?” I cut him off, and his eyes narrowed in shock.
“Give me a reason why I should save her? Give me a reason why I should save the woman who ruined my entirety,” I looked into his eyes and demanded.
Silen ce crept into the atmosphere for the next few minutes.
“I’m not going to talk you into doing it, I promise… She deserves it, anyway…” He paused and sniffled. “I don’t want to lose her, but I won’t talk you into doing it. I will find a way around it,” I felt that deep in my heart when he said that. This was crazy, but somehow, I liked how he was protecting his Mom. I could not bring myself to get mad at him for trying to protect her because I would’ve done the same if I was in his shoes. It’s his Mom we are talking about here. I would’ve done the same for my Mom if she was alive. I would’ve protected her even if she had turned out to be a criminal, I would not have hesitated to put down my life to protect hers if I had a chance to.

“Summer…” He paused and slowly went on his knees with his gaze held low.

“I know this can’t get rid of the pain you’ve been through… I shouldn’t be asking you for this, but I can’t help it. I’m not asking you to forgive my Mom or not to hate her, but I’m begging you on her behall. Please…”
“I don’t know whatever you are going to say, but I don’t give a f**k about your Mom. You should leave,” I turned to leave, but he spoke up.
“I won’t give up. Summer… I won’t ever give up. Even if you walk away, I will keep taking steps toward you… Even when you push me away, I will always come to you… I have never stopped loving you,” The sincerity in his voice was undeniable and I didn’t try to. I knew Xander like the back of my palm, and I knew he meant every words coming from him. He would never have told me he loved me if he didn’t feel anything, that I know for sure.
“Do you think I care about your feelings?” I scoffed as I turned to him, but deep inside me, I knew more than anyone that I did care about it.
“You don’t deserve me, Xander. Your family doesn’t deserve me. If you want to whine, I think you should go to your mom and whine to her. Who knows, she might have someone in mind for you to marry,” I shrugged and forced a smile though I didn’t want that to ever happen.
“You should leave already. You wouldn’t want me to call the cops on you, trust me,” And with that, I finally headed to my room upstairs.
My heart wrenched painfully and tears poured down my cheeks as I walked down the walkway minutes later, and when I finally stepped inside my room, I let my weight on my bed and buried my face in my pillow, crying my eyes out.
“What do I do?”
