Chapter 73
Chapter 73
Summer Frost POV
•
‘I don’t want to show you the ugly side of me, Summer. Come over and see me tomorrow’ A deep sigh escaped my throat when I read the text Mr. Miller had sent to me last night. I haven’t gone to his house after the incident, and I haven’t taken any of his calls either. Of course, I knew this was going to cause a huge trouble for me, but my m n t a l health was at stake and I needed to get everything together before speaking to him. Even though it turned out that he just did everything for me so he could use me, it still didn’t change the fact that he saved me, and for that, he deserved at least my respect and loyalty.
It was Saturday morning, but unlike every other weekends that I’d feel excited, I wasn’t feeling that way today for some weird reason. Maybe because of
the tired week I had, who knows?
I had just gotten off bed late in the morning and about to head into the bathroom when a knock came on the door, demanding my attention which I gave to it as I paused and looked at my locked door.
“Who is there?”
“Good morning, ma’am. It’s me, Chloe,” Chloe’s voice sounded from outside, so I ambled toward the door, unlocked and opened it, revealing the young lady who was graced in a casual cloth and an apron over her dress.
“Chloe… Is everything alright?” It was so unlike her to come to my room in the morning if it wasn’t for breakfast, and it’s obvious breakfast was not ready yet because it wasn’t time yet since we do have breakfast late on weekends.
“Yes, ma’am. A man is here to see you,” I pulled a puzzled look as I was not expecting anyone today.
“A man? Who is he?”
“He said his name is Mr. Hughes,” My heart missed a beat and I felt butterflies in my stomach when she said that. It was Xander!
“Alright. Tell him I’ll join him shortly,” After she nodded, I closed the door and crashed against it as I exhaled deeply. The thought of having Xander over this morning had me smiling foolishly to myself.
“Oh, no… What do I do?” A gasp tore through my throat upon realising that I looked a mess. I didn’t want him to see me like this.
With a speed of light, I dashed into the bathroom, had a quick bath and I spent quality time selecting what to wear after I did my usual routine.
“It’s still morning, so he might think you got dressed for him,” I paused and pouted my lips, but quickly dismissed the thought.
“It doesn’t matter,” After ransacking my wardrobe, I finally settled for a pair of long leggings and a crop top. This was so unlike me, but I so much wanted to impress him that I didn’t think twice wearing the crazy dress.
“Should I leave my hair up or down?” I muttered as I tried the two styles while standing in front of the mirror, and after deliberating on it for two minutes straight, I finally settled for leaving it down.
‘That’ll make you look hot and s**y’ That was the thought in my mind as I carefully brushed my hair down.
“Don’t make it too obvious. Just little make-up will do,” I whispered to my reflection as I applied little to no make-up on my face.
“Perfect… It’s not so obvious,” I straightened my back with a warm smile on my face.
“One more thing… Perfume,” I had grabbed my perfume, ready to spray it on my body, but I changed my mind and dropped IL
“He’ll find out you’re doing this to impress him,” I chuckled briefly as I straightened the strands of rough hair on my head, and with the more pe my reflection, I finally exited the room

However, my excitement vanished in seconds and I was filled with disappointment when I arrived at the living room and saw that it was not Xander, but
his Dad.
“What was all the work for?” I muttered, p**d at myself.
“Ms Summer… You are here,” The old man whom I haven’t seen in years stood up with a smile on his face as soon as I arrived at the living room.
“Good morning, Sir. I didn’t know it was you,” I forced a smile once I was standing in front of him. Xander uses his surname too, so how could I have imagined that it was his Dad who had come to see me? And by the way, why was he here?
“Please sit,” I gestured toward the couch for him politely, and he sat while I made myself comfortable on the couch across from him.
“Uhm… You are welcome to my home, Mr. Hughes. What should I offer you, please?”
“Don’t worry about me. I’m fine,” He quickly shook his head, and I slowly nodded. I was still confused as to why he was here, anyway.
“Hmm,”
Silence crept into the atmosphere, leaving me so awkward. I didn’t know if I was to start up a conversation or if he was to do that since he had come to see me. He could not have come all the way here just for nothing, right?
“Summer…” It felt like a burden had just been lifted off my chest when he broke the awkward silence.
“I don’t know where to start… I don’t know the right words to use, but I’ll just go straight to the point…” He paused and adjusted on the couch.
“I’m here to apologize for everything that happened. I’m sorry about the way my family treated you. I’m sorry my son was reckless. I’m sorry you had to go through all the s**s by yourself,” He shrugged and exhaled deeply. Though none of Xander’s family ever liked except for Lisa, this man never treated me like a piece of trash unlike his wife who bullied me at every chance she ever got.
“I never had anything against you, but I’m sorry I didn’t protect you. Please forgive us. I know I have no right to say this to you, but if it’s still possible, I would like to have you back in my family as my daughter-in-law. I know it’s going to take some time to forgive us and heal from the pain, but I hope you really do,”
Though I was hurt about everything and kept thinking that his parents would not have been like this if I wasn’t successful, a part of me was also happy that this was happening. It didn’t matter to me if the love was real, but one thing I was sure of is that they won’t maltreat me this time if I ever went back to Xander, and if they ever tried to, he would be there to protect me, and not only him, Lisa will be there this time, and of course, I won’t fold my arms and just watch like the naive girl I was years ago.
I sat speechlessly as I was left with nothing to say. I didn’t know the right words to use.
He dipped his hand inside his pocket and as he brought it out, he had a business card in between his fingers. He dropped it on the center table with a
smile on his face.
“My house is always opened for you to come over anytime, and you can always contact me at anytime. I promise to protect you this time,” He forced a smile then stood up and turned to leave, but paused and looked back at me.
“Right… When you are coming over, please do so with my grandkids. I’m really anxious to see them,” And with that, he finally ambled toward the exit door, and left.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I gently picked up the card and gazed at it.
“Ma’ant… Can I speak with you for a moment?” Chloe’s voice drew my attention, and I quickly wiped my tears before I looked at her and nodded.
“I don’t know if this is right to talk about… You know, it’s your personal affairs, so~~”
“Feel free to talk to me, Chloe. I don’t mind,” I cut her off with a smile. To me, Chloe was not just my worker, but a sister to me. She has been loyal to me for years, treat my kids as though they were her sisters, and she has been nothing but a sweet girl, so why shouldn’t I listen to her?
Pit’s about Mr. Xander, ma’am,” My attention got h**d as soon as she mentioned his name. Just the sound of his name gave me butterflies in my

stomach as I could not wait to hear what she had to say about him.

“I think he really loves you, and I have a good feeling things will work out between you two this time,” I pulled a puzzled look when she said ‘this time’.
“Actually… I’ve known about him since you got back, and I also know that he is the father of the kids,” That left me even more shocked, but I was glad that someone I considered a sister knew about my deep secret. It didn’t matter how she knew about it, I was just glad I could get to share things with her honestly.
“It’s obvious you still love him too. Why don’t you two give this a chance again? I think the kids will be very happy to reunite with their Dad. Don’t you think so, ma’am?” She looked at me sincerely, and I sighed.
“Thank you. I will think about it, Chloe,” I smiled at her excitedly before I stood up and headed to my room…
