Grandpa, I’ve made up my mind. I’m going abroad.”

Mr. Snow’s trembling voice came through the phone: What about your wedding with my grandson

Berton?”

We won’t have it anymore,Jean Collins replied firmly

On the other end, the old man sighed helplessly: It’s our Snow family that has let you down. We’ve wasted these years.”

Let Berton make it up to you.”

The issue of compensation was no longer relevant; she felt she had repaid her debts to the Snow family. The best outcome would be for both sides to remain unencumbered

No need,Jean said. Please don’t tell him about this

yet.”

The old man agreed

Jean was no longer the little deaf girl who could be ridiculed at will

Her hearing had recovered, and a brighter future awaited her. She closed her eyes, recalling her earlier conversation with Mr. Snow, lost in memories…

Days earlier, Jean had told Mr. Snow: I’ve decided to undergo ossicular chain reconstruction

surgery.”

Despite her fear, her tone was resolute

The doctor’s warning echoed in her ears: If the surgery fails, it could affect the brain’s nerves and lead to brain death. Miss Collins, are you prepared for this?”

Jean wanted the surgery because whenever Berton was close, he would impatiently remove her hearing aid

His friends often mocked him for wanting to marry a deaf girl. At that moment, she thought that if her hearing returned to normal, he would be happy

Taking the risk, she went through the entire surgery

messages

But Jean had grown accustomed to Berton’s hotandcold behavior

Fortunately, fate favored her

After the surgery, filled with joy, Jean eagerly awaited Berton’s return home to tell him that she had undergone the ossicular chain reconstruction and was now just like anyone else

To surprise him, she wore her hearing aid, waiting for him to take it off for her when he returned. But what she got was a drunken Berton stumbling through the door

Before Jean could react, Berton pushed her against the entrance wall, gripping her shoulders and kissing her without giving her a chance to speak

This urgent and forceful Berton was a first for Jean. As he lifted her onto the sofa, kisses rained down on her neck and ear. He then took off her hearing aid

This had been Berton’s habit for years; Jean guessed it was because he found it bothersome

Watching the man above her, she anticipated his reaction when he learned her hearing had returned, just as she was about to speak

Instead, she heard Berton murmur, WinniWinni”

Having just regained her hearing, Jean was acutely sensitive to sounds. She froze in place, but Berton, lost in desire, didn’t notice

He wasn’t calling her Jean, but Winni.”

All these years, he still hadn’t let go of Winni Byron

Every time they were intimate, he would take off her hearing aidnot because it was inconvenient, but so he could call out for Winni

Winni had tortured him to the brink of death, yet she remained the one he couldn’t forget
