Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Berton arrived at the old residence, where Mr. Snow glared at his grandson in disappointment: So you finally remember to come see me?”

With a tight throat, Berton finally spoke, Grandpa, sheshe’s gone!”

The old man leaned on his cane and scoffed, Isn’t it good that she’s gone? Didn’t you think I was forcing her on you?”

Maybeit’s that I didn’t realize what I truly wanted.”

Berton knelt, pleading, Grandpa, you know where she is, right? Please tell me!”

Mr. Snow raised his cane and struck Berton without mercy, one blow after another

Berton didn’t resist, only letting out muffled grunts when he couldn’t help it

Seeing his dejected grandson, Mr. Snow sighed helplessly: Berton, let her go. She hasn’t been happy

these years

We, the Snow family, owe her a debt of gratitude. If you still have a conscience, let her explore the

World outside.”

Berton’s eyes turned red, finally admitting the truth

The world outside was vast; where would he even begin to search

The housekeeper noticed Berton’s injured back and offered to help him with medicine, but he

refused, clutching Jean’s little rabbit pillow tightly, greedily inhaling its scent

She hadn’t taken anything with herwas this her way of severing ties completely

Suddenly, an empty jewelry box on the vanity caught his attention. If he remembered correctly, it

contained a pink brooch he had once given her

Had she been reluctant to part with it? Did she want to keep a memento for herself

Did that mean he still had a chance

With this glimmer of hope, Berton searched through everything Jean had left behind, but found no trace of her

Chapter 11

He used his connections to check every possible place in the country, even visiting Jean’s nowabandoned old home multiple times, but not a single sign of her

What he dreaded most was admitting that Jean had gone abroad. The world was so vast; how could he possibly find her

Yet he didn’t give up. He expanded the company’s business across half the northern hemisphere, using work as an excuse to search for her every day of the year

Outside of work, his world was filled only with thoughts of Jean

In his most helpless moments, deep in the night, he resorted to extreme measures to force Jean to appear. All that remained were the countless cuts on his wrist, with nothing else left behind
