“Whitney! You’re here!”
The little girl spun around, clutching at the hem of the woman’s coat, her cheeks streaked with tears. “Grandma won’t let me in. Please, go check for me! That mean lady looks hurt, my daddy and mommy are getting yelled at by Grandpa and Grandma, and Grandma even wants to kick Mommy out…”
Whitney bent down, offering her hand. The girl’s tears spilled over, dotting Whitney’s palm.
Whitney had two boys of her own, and Tina was just so adorable and soft-hearted, it tugged at her sympathy.
Whitney’s sharp eyes swept over the closed guest room door. She soothed Tina, “Hey, sweetie, don’t cry. I’m here to help your daddy, okay?”
Tina sniffled, rubbing her eyes, and only then realized Whitney hadn’t come alone.
Behind her was a very young assistant.
And that assistant was flanked by a security guard, who had three masked men tied up.
The Nelson family’s housekeeper and a couple of startled maids trailed after them, eyes wide with shock.
Whitney straightened, about to go inside—
—but just then, the guest room door swung open from the inside. Gary strode out, his face thunderous.
Shane was right behind him, brow furrowed. He looked up and spotted Whitney, his expression shifting from surprise to relief. “Whitney!”
He bypassed his father, striding over.
Gary scowled at the crowd at his doorstep and shot Whitney, the unfamiliar face, a suspicious look. He turned to the butler. “What’s going on? Who are these people? Why are there so many strangers in my house?”
