Love beyond the mask (Whitney) novel Chapter 1249

“Oh, really?” Whitney let out a short, amused laugh. “Sienna, you’re so sure you were assaulted, but by who exactly? Was it those three thugs Shane sent after you?”

“Whitney…”

Sienna froze, her face draining of color as she finally noticed Whitney walk in. Her eyes widened with shock.

The room fell into a tense silence.

Mrs. Nelson turned to see who had spoken.

As soon as Sandy saw it was Whitney, she hurried over.

“Whit,” Sandy said, her breath a little shaky as she spoke quietly, “I was there the whole time when they took the samples. She really does have… injuries…”

Whitney just smiled and held up a hand, signaling her to stop.

Sandy fell silent.

Whitney looked back at Sienna. “I asked you a question. Who assaulted you?”

Snapping out of her daze, Sienna glared at Whitney, instantly realizing she wasn’t here as a friend.

Her mind raced. If Whitney had shown up, she must’ve already checked out what happened after Sienna ran away last night. She probably tracked down those three “fall guys,” too.

But if Whitney had already found her “scapegoats,” Sienna wasn’t worried. She smirked internally. Those three men were desperate enough—she’d paid them to keep their mouths shut, and that other person controlled their families. There was no way they’d turn on her.

Whitney wouldn’t be able to flip the story. Impossible.

Sienna pressed her lips together. Emma, sitting beside her, squeezed her hand. Sienna knew the old woman was nervous.

Impatient, Sienna pushed Emma’s hand away, composed herself, and then, eyes red and brimming with tears, cried out to the room, “Shane and Sandy paid three drunken men to attack me! How many times do I have to say it? They assaulted me!

Mr. Nelson, isn’t it enough that our family’s dirty laundry is out in the open? Why are you letting some outsider interrogate me?

And you, Whitney—you and Sandy are thick as thieves. Are you just here to gloat? If you hadn’t lent them a hand last night, maybe I wouldn’t have ended up like this. You’re all cut from the same cloth!”
