After getting in the car, Clarissa felt as if she had left her heart and that her soul had floated out of her body.
The good thing was, the university campus wasn’t a desolate environment. Besides, she really liked her current job.
The driver sent them to Marble Garden. He got out of the car and even went through the trouble of carrying Clarissa’s boxes upstairs personally.
Caleb and a few students were just returning from a game of basketball. Since they were passing by, they also pitched in to help.
“What’s all this?” Caleb asked as he easily picked up one of the boxes.
“It’s food he packed me for when I was in Genovia,” Clarissa said.
She purposely emphasized the word “he” to tell Caleb that it was impossible for her to be with Caleb, and to make Caleb forget about her.
“He’s much better than me. I can’t win against him,” Caleb admitted sincerely.
How could he possibly compete with Damien Lawrence?
His mother had once worked in Mr. Lawrence’s home. He had already lost by miles just by comparing their family backgrounds. He could not afford to give Clarissa the things Mr. Lawrence could. Besides, Clarissa had already given him a child.
Ever since Rem and Lisa returned, the fact that Clarissa was Damien’s wife had been spread to everyone at the university; all thanks to Lisa’s big mouth.
According to Lisa, “They have a big happy family.”
Although nobody knew Clarissa and Damien had long divorced, Caleb still shouldn’t destroy their “happiness”, should he?
Having returned to home sweet home, Clarissa washed up a few apples and ate them while she rested.
Some time later, her phone chimed with a Whatsapp notification. It was a message from the administrative office.
[There will be an open class for new lecturers next week. The professors at the university will be in charge of the grading.]
The notice had come in quite suddenly. However, it was due to this that the lecturers’ quality could be accurately gauged.
More than twenty new lecturers had joined the university this year, with Clarissa being one of them.
That, and Clarissa was confident in the quality of her lectures.
“What’s up? Planning to buy a house?” Chanel glanced at the notice as well.
The university’s official page had announced this long before. As such, Chanel knew about it early on.
“Oh, it’s nothing. The unit I have at the university right now is more than enough. I’m just looking.”
Clarissa noticed that Chanel’s gaze was still on the notice even after some time had passed. So, she asked, “Are you looking to buy a house?
“Huh? Ah, yes. The prices for these are a tenth of those out on the market. Of course I want to get one. Thing is, I need to pay the entire sum, and I don’t have that kind of funds available. My family can’t help, either.” Chanel found the request quite embarrassing, but she pushed forward regardless. “Clarissa… Do you think you could lend me some money?”
“Me? My money’s all tied up for ten years,” Clarissa said honestly. Back when she had gotten divorced, she had put all of the money Damien gave her into the bank and put aside only a bit of subsistence funds for herself. Upon gazing at Chanel’s troubled countenance, she asked, “Why don’t you ask Damien?”
“About borrowing money…” Chanel let out a pained laugh. “Even though we used to be classmates, it’s a tall order. Well, it’s not like his money grows on trees.”
“Why don’t I ask him for you?” Clarissa suggested. To her, Chanel was absolutely trustworthy.
