“You evil witch! What are you trying to do now!” Mom shouted as she hit me. “Was harming Lianne not enough? Now, you want to harm your father too? He’s your birth father! What sin did I commit to end up giving birth to a wretched child like you!”
Mark–who had been standing to the side–stepped in front of me to shield me from her.
A few officers standing nearby had also rushed over and intervened. One of them gave her a stern warning to refrain from making a scene or assaulting someone at a police station. His name tag read “Gordon“.
However, Mom didn’t seem to care where she was or who she was talking to. Her rage had probably blinded her.
“What’s the issue?” she continued shouting. “Is it against the law for me to discipline my daughter? I gave her life! So what if I hit her a few times?”
She thought she had the right to beat me to death since she had given birth to me. She also probably thought no one had the right to criticize her for doing so since she was my mom.
I had been in the detention center for days. Yet, she hadn’t even come to visit me once. Now, I had been cleared of suspicion and released. Not only was she not happy about this, she was even hitting me.
It was apparent the officers around us couldn’t stand any more of this farce.
“So what if you gave birth to her? It’s considered child abuse for a mother to hit her child!” Officer Gordon admonished her again. “According to laws pertaining to physical assault and abuse, anyone who is charged can be detained for five to ten days. The same applies to hitting your own child.”
“So I will charge you and have you detained if you lay another hand on her!” He warned.
Officer Gordon’s stern reprimanding finally made Mom calm down. She glared fiercely at me since she could no longer hit me. She was looking at me like I had murdered her husband.
Everyone around looked at me in sympathy. They pitied me for the way my own birth mother was treating me.
As for me, I had long become accustomed to such treatment from her. Hence, I felt nothing.
Dad had been silent and kept his head down this whole time. However, when he spotted Mom, he immediately
called out to her.
“Catherine! Help me! I didn’t do anything!” he said in an aggrieved tone. “I was just testing my drug on Millicent. I don’t know why they’ve arrested me!”
Dad was an arrogant man with great pride. He didn’t tolerate those whose opinions differed from his. Because of this, he was socially inept and would often get into conflicts with others.
Whenever that happens, Mom would always step in and smooth things over for him. Hence, he had become used to relying on her to fix his problems. He probably thought she would be able to save him from his current predicament too.
Mom only knew Dad and Julianne had been arrested. But she didn’t know why or what had happened. So when she heard his pitiful pleas, her anger flared once again.
“Millicent Quill!” she screamed at me. “He is your father! Your birth father! How dare you! How dare you have him arrested!”
“Ms. Quill isn’t the reason he has been arrested,” Officer Gordon replied before I could speak. “He’s committed a crime! It’s his fault he’s been arrested!”

The officers had never met a mother like Mom. How could mother blame her own daughter without knowing the full story?
Officer Gordon told Mom the truth before she could say anything else. He told her how Dad had drugged me with Abyde to get me to do all sorts of things to Julianne. He also told her how Dad fabricated my bipolar disorder medical record.
