The soldiers informed me someone had injured his legs. Then, they explained I needed to come with them to their barracks hospital to provide treatment.

I sighed in relief and told them I needed to go upstairs to pack a few essentials. After they agreed, I went upstairs with Cordelia.

The soldiers hadn’t mentioned who had been injured. However, the fact that such a large convoy had been dispatched to pick me up meant that the person must be important.

With the soldiers waiting for me, Cordelia and I didn’t have time to talk. So, we simply packed some daily necessities and hurried back downstairs.

I was placed in the middle jeep of the convoy. Once inside, I noticed someone was already sitting in the back seat. When I realized who it was, I froze.

The person sitting in the back seat clearly looked uneasy. And when he saw me, he froze too.

Emi?Henry called.

He had been dragged out of bed early in the morning and brought into the car. Even now, he was still dazed. When he saw me, who had long since cut ties with him, he was utterly stunned.

I was equally stunned to see him in the car. Wasn’t I being asked to treat someone’s legs? What did Henry have to do with it? Could it be that the person’s condition wasn’t because of a simple car accident or physical trauma?

After I got in and sat down, Henry couldn’t help scooting toward me.

Why do they need me for a leg injury, Emi?he asked nervously. Don’t tell me something has gone awry with one of the drugs I’ve developed?

When the soldiers went to pick him up, they had also told him it was to examine a leg injury. However, he was a developer of harmful drugs. He didn’t even know how to treat leg injuries. So, why had they called on him?

But, being the coward that he was, Henry hadn’t dared to clarify things. Instead, he just obediently got in the car.

Once he had, Henry was struck with a thought. What if the leg injury was just a cover? What if someone had discovered the illegal drugs he had been developing, and he was being taken away to be charged?

At this thought, Henry couldn’t help but be fearful. He was so afraid that he hadn’t been able to sit still.

I didn’t give him a response. I also had no idea why Henry was needed. But even if I did, I wouldn’t want to tell him anything.

Seeing that I wasn’t going to answer him, Henry pathetically tugged on my arm. Please, Emi. I know I’ve done a lot of deplorable things in the past. But regardless, I’m still your father.

I didn’t even spare him a glance. As far as I was concerned, our fatherdaughter relationship had ended long ago.

Before Henry could speak again, I closed my eyes.

I had been tortured for a whole night because the effects of the drug in my system hadn’t fully worn off. And now, I was suddenly faced with a situation like this.

I was mentally drained and physically exhausted. So, even if I couldn’t fall asleep, I wanted to close my eyes and rest for a while.

BabeIrvin murmured groggily.

He rolled over to hug me, only to find the spot empty. Just as he was about to whiningly ask where I had gone, he realized something wasn’t right.

His eyes snapped open. A woman was getting dressed at the foot of the bed. However, this woman wasn’t me, but Grace.
