Grace squashed down her panic and turned to face Irvin. With a bashful smile, she said, “Tim, you’re awake.”
Irvin only felt murderous rage when he saw the smile. Grabbing the blanket beside him, he flung it at her. His entire body was trembling with fury.
He had been too trusting of Julianne in the past. Because of it, he had believed his entire relationship with me had been a sham from the moment we met–one I had orchestrated.
As a result, he had hated me to the point of neglect. He had tormented and emotionally abused me. On top of that, he had even stood by and allowed others to ridicule me.
Irvin admitted he had been such a brainless idiot then. Even so, he had never cheated on me.
Yes, he had been kind to Julianne and hadn’t drawn boundaries with her. However, that was only because they had grown up together.
Julianne’s ties with him were closer than his own female cousin. Whenever Diana had been too busy during their childhood, he would take care of her. He had been the one who would lull her to sleep.
And because Irvin and Julianne had been close since they were young, he would treat her well out of habit. Plus, her health was fragile. So, even in adulthood, it had kept him from recognizing how inappropriate their relationship was. As such, Irvin had never put distance between them.
Eventually, he had come to realize this. He had also discovered he truly had made all sorts of mistakes because of his relationship with her. This was a fact that even Irvin couldn’t deny.
He also knew anything he said would just sound like excuses. Still, be it physically or emotionally, Irvin really did have a strong physical aversion to sullying himself.
Philip had been an unfaithful man who had many mistresses. Growing up, Irvin had seen Lizzie weep over his father countless times. She had even attempted to end her life more than once.
Because of that, Irvin had vowed as a child that he would never become a man like Philip. He would either love one person for a lifetime or not love at all. Most importantly, he would never do anything to betray the one he loved.
So yes, Irvin had been foolish. Blinded by misunderstanding and consumed by hate, he had wanted me to suffer alongside him.
He had been deliberately cruel to me. And for everything he had done to me, he deserved to die.
But no matter how deserving of death he was, he had never once thought about betraying me. He had never even once entertained the idea of having an affair with another woman.
Love, hate–all of his feelings had been centered on me. I was the only woman he had ever wanted. Even in the depuis of his hatred and pain, I was the only one Irvin had ever wanted to spend his life with.
He had finally come up with a way to fix our relationship and was just biding his time. He was waiting until he had full control of the Hardwell family, so no one could touch us. And once that happened, he would carry out his plan. Then, we could start over
again soon.
Hence, Irvin couldn’t accept it. He absolutely couldn’t accept that something had happened between him and Grace. Because if it had, I wouldn’t ever want him again. Not only that, he could never allow his tainted self to approach me ever again!
Pulling the blanket off herself, Grace was about to speak. But then Irvin had fully dressed and had already charged over to her. She didn’t even have time to react in fear or say anything before he grabbed her by her throat.
