Chapter 124
Victoria’s gaze toward Elena grew darker as she repeated her question, “Who’s the child’s father?”
“Grandma!” Elena cried out in distress.
Seeing Elena couldn’t provide an answer, everyone started openly questioning her.
Angeline mocked, “Could it be that the child’s father never intended to marry you? Elena, you’ve always been a sensible girl. How could you be so careless and end up with a child?”
Edith intercepted, “You’re setting a bad example for your younger siblings!”
“The apple never falls far from the tree. Caleb, it seems all your efforts over the years are in vain!” Angeline pointed out.
Edith chimed in, “You treat her better than your own daughter, yet she turned out like this.”
Elena screamed, on the brink of collapse, “Enough!” Her bloodshot eyes swept across everyone.
Amelia’s heart ached as she moved to protect Elena and glared at Madelyn. “Are you satisfied now?”
Madelyn watched their mother- ughter bond, especially in such a humiliating situation.
She recalled facing similar ridicule when she first returned
Chapu
to the Garcia family, and how had Amelia reacted? Amelia had distanced herself for fear that Madelyn would
embarrass her.
“What would I be satisfied about? Or is there another reason. for her pregnancy? Is she not actually pregnant?” Madelyn nonchalantly retorted.
Amelia and Elena stiffened even more. They didn’t dare to admit in front of Madelyn that Elena wasn’t really pregnant.
Everyone turned their gazes intently on Amelia and Elena upon hearing there might be another reason.
Just as Edith and Angeline were about to continue their questioning, Victoria stopped them with a stern look. ” Enough!”
“What about you? Why did you come back?” Madelyn replied indifferently.
Hazel was taken aback by the question. She then looked at Madelyn. “Shall we leave now?”
She had long grown tired of such gatherings. Despite being family, their hypocritical faces made her sick every time.
Just as Madelyn was about to nod, Victoria called out to her from a distance.
She spoke forcefully without hiding her intentions, “Maddie, the project on Glomhill is very important to Matthew. Talk to Andrew and secure it for our family.”
Victoria had subtly tried to secure various projects related to Miller Group through Madelyn, but Madelyn’s refusals led to today’s forceful and self–righteous approach.
