Chapter 31
Madelyn sat by the bed and didn’t move an inch.
Andrew opened his bloodshot eyes, and there was a hungry, animalistic look in them as if he were about to pull her over to him.” Why don’t you come and sleep with me?”
She shook her head. “No, you should sleep on your own.”
Images from what had happened on the way home last night flashed through her mind. How could she get into bed with him? She was not going to serve herself up on a platter.
Andrew gazed intensely at her. “I can’t sleep with you here.”
“Hurry up and go to sleep. I’ll go to the kitchen to see if there are any desserts.” Madelyn got up and made her escape.
There was a gentle look in Andrew’s eyes as he watched her run off happily.
The moment the door closed, the look in his eyes turned ferocious, like when he was in the study. He picked up his phone and dialed a
number.
When Madelyn got downstairs, she saw one of the kitchen staff carrying a container of food and making a report to David. David did not look happy.
Madelyn immediately recognized the food as the pork chops that Elena had sent over.
“What’s going on?” She went over to them.
David took the container of food from the kitchen staff and gave it to Madelyn. “Mrs. Miller, did you make these?”
Madelyn glanced at the pork chops. Although they had been stored in the fridge to keep them fresh, there was already a layer of mold on them.
What was that?
Madelyn shook her head. “I can’t cook.”
Although she didn’t cook often, she could tell that there was something strange about the pork chops.
David asked, “Did someone send these over?”
“Yes. Is there something wrong with them?”
