Chapter 7 

Madelyn gently pushed the door open. Andrew was still sleeping. He had lost so much blood from last night to today, after all. No matter how strong he was, his body wouldn’t be able to handle it. Didn’t he care about his life?

She cautiously approached the bed. Seeing that the IV drip was almost finished, she bent to get another bag. Before she could straighten up, Andrew grabbed her wrist.

It turned out he was already awake. He looked at her icily, which scared her. She said, “Your IV drip has almost finished. I was just going to switch to a new one.”

Why was he looking at her like that again? Had something else happened? She tried to think about what could’ve gone wrong, but her memory failed her because she hadn’t cared about Andrew in her past life. She couldn’t remember much about what had happened to him.

Andrew asked, “Has he contacted you?”

It only took Madelyn a moment to realize who he was talking about. No wonder Rowan had looked at her like that downstairs. Did they think she was forcing herself to stay by Andrew’s side as a spy because Easton wanted to start fighting for the Miller family’s fortune?

Her tone was sincere, and she didn’t hesitate as she spoke. Still, Andrew didn’t say anything. Madelyn knew it was hard for him to believe her easily. She had done too many stupid things to help Easton, after all. Andrew would be a fool if he were to believe her just like that.

“Give me a minute!” Madelyn pulled her phone out and checked the time. It had been three hours since Easton last called her. She called him back and put him on speaker.

Easton answered after two rings. His tone was gentle as he said, “I’m on my way, Maddie. I’ll see you soon.”

The tension thickened. Madelyn knew things were taking a turn for the worse when she saw the look on Andrew’s face. He wasn’t in a good mood, which affected her. She barked, “Who do you think you are, coming to see me? I’m your uncle’s wife!

room. Easton’s breathing grew heavier on the other end of the line. It was especially audible in the silence.

Madelyn saw Andrew’s expression become uglier. She was about to hang up to continue appeasing him when Easton said, “He’s threatening you, right? Don’t worry, I’ll send you abroad as soon as possible.”

At that, she couldn’t help glancing diffidently at Andrew. Then, she forced the words out through gritted teeth, “You and Elena make a good match. Can’t you understand simple words?”

Easton fell silent. Was it because he was shocked by her bluntly exposing his and Elena’s relationship?

Madelyn struck while the iron was hot and snapped, “Don’t think I don’t know what you and Elena are up to. If you dare scheme against me and manipulate me in the future, I won’t let you two off the hook!”

Then, she hung up with Andrew watching her silently. When she realized that the phone call hadn’t done anything to clear the air, she felt even more diffident. “Darling, let’s change the IV drip first, okay?”

Andrew still didn’t look happy, but he released her. She was relieved to see that he wasn’t throwing a tantrum anymore.

After the incident with the medication being tampered with, Madelyn was ultra- careful when handling anything to do with Andrew. She was afraid of even the slightest thing going wrong. She checked the IV drip repeatedly before changing it.

Once she was done, she turned away with the empty IV bag in hand. Andrew said. behind her, “You’re not allowed to see him in the future.”

She turned back and met his dangerous gaze, feeling a little conflicted. It was precisely this hesitation that made Andrew’s expression darken again.

Damn it. It had barely been five minutes since she had appeased him!

Madelyn leaned against the side of the bed and looked at Andrew innocently. “Don’t get me wrong, darling. I swear I won’t see him! He’s the one who’s bugging me.”
