Chapter 70
Benson said nothing.
Madelyn shrugged it off. Everyone presumed she was destined for mistreatment in the Garcia residence. She never stood up for herself in her past life, accepting whatever the Garcias asserted as the truth and blaming herself for not measuring up. It was all because she cared deeply for them.
They meant nothing to her when Madelyn finally stopped caring.
As Madelyn stepped out of the car, Amelia put on a forced smile and reached out to take her hand. “Maddie, you’re back. Come on. Let’s go inside.”
Amelia’s overly friendly demeanor repulsed Madelyn, prompting her to withdraw her hand with undisguised disdain. Amelia looked
embarrassed, her smile faltering, yet she refrained from lashing out at Madelyn as she normally would have. Instead, she suggested, “Let’s head inside first.”
Madelyn followed her.
Caleb wasn’t home. He had been at Garcia Group last night when the company was unexpectedly dealt with a blow, catching him off guard. In recent days, both Caleb and Amelia had started to realize their vulnerability once Madelyn began to retaliate.
Nora arrived with coffee and fruit, her demeanor unusually deferential. “Ms. Madelyn, please enjoy.”
Madelyn sneered, “Nora, it’s rare to see you stoop to serve me.” Still clutching the tray, Nora went pale and dropped to her knees. Madelyn arched ar yebrow, glancing at Amelia, who lowered her voice to say, “Before, the household staff didn’t show you respect
because of me. I’m ensuring they learn their lesson now.”
Madelyn scoffed, amazed that Amela had only just noticed the disrespect she had endured due to her demeanor.
Seated across from Madelyn, Amella’s muscles tightened as she caught sight of Madelyn’s smirk. Despite Madelyn being her daughter, Amelia couldn’t help but feel a wave of revulsion each time she looked at her. Madelyn was the cause of all Amelia’s nightmares.
Amelia took a deep breath and said, “I know you hate me. Whatever issue you have, take it out on me. Elena hasn’t wronged you in any way!”
“Is that so?” Madelyn replied, giving her a sarcastic look.
