An ambulance raced past their car in the opposite direction, its siren piercing the air. Madelyn listened to the blaring noise, her heart feeling numb and heavy.

When Madelyn returned to Andrew’s office, she found him sitting behind his desk with a solemn expression. Forcing a bright smile, Madelyn tried to lighten the mood by curling up on his lap.

Just then, Madelyn noticed Damian and Wilson on the couch. One of them looked stern while the other could barely conceal his

amusement.

Blushing, Madelyn quickly separated from Andrew and greeted them,” Mr. Curran, Mr. Yarrow.”

She shot a reproachful glance at Andrew and continued, “I’ll wait for you at the lounge.”

As Madelyn stepped into the lounge, she could still hear Damian’s laughter from the room. Her cheeks burned with embarrassment.

Madelyn reminded herself that the office was no place to let her guard down.

Shortly after, Andrew entered and pulled her into his arms.

Madelyn instinctively resisted. The episode earlier had scarred her. ” No.”

Andrew buried his face in Madelyn’s neck and chuckled softly. “Don’t worry. They’re gone.”

“You still have the nerve to talk about it.” Madelyn turned away in

annoyance.

She had almost kissed Andrew in front of them earlier. Damian’s

laughter was mortifying!

“How am I supposed to face them now?” 

They wouldn’t dare to mock you.”

Despite Andrew’s attempts to comfort Madelyn, she remained angry.

Wilson was always serious and mature, but Damian? He would probably tease her with knowing glances every time they met.

Madelyn rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on.

Seeing her too angry to speak, Andrew chuckled softly. “You jumped into my arms so quickly. I didn’t have time to warn you.”

“Please, just stop talking.” If he continued, Madelyn wasn’t sure she could resist smacking him.

It was still early, and Andrew had another meeting to attend. He gently ruffled her soft hair. “Get some sleep. I’ll take you out to dinner after work.” 

“Won’t I be able to sleep at night if I nap now?” Madelyn asked.
