Madelyn warned.

Carrie was shocked. “How did you figure that out?”

For years, Carrie and Jackson had kept their relationship under wraps, and no one knew about it. She was taken aback that Madelyn had picked up on it.

Madelyn closed the menu and handed it to the waiter. “The people you’ve ditched before didn’t cause you trouble, but from what I know, Mrs. Sinclair is very protective of her own.

“If she finds out you’ve been fooling her son, even Jackson won’t be able to protect you.”

Carrie scoffed. “As if I care about him!”

But Madelyn knew better. Jackson wasn’t just another fling to

Carrie.

In the past life, when Madelyn got into trouble, Jackson was already planning to marry another woman when Carrie was pregnant. Madelyn didn’t know what happened after that.

The food arrived quickly. As they ate, Carrie said, “We should get Stella to come out tonight. I want to know how things went for her at home last night.”

“I’m busy tonight,” Madelyn replied.

“Oh?”

Madelyn took a bite of the spicy dish and quickly grabbed her juice to cool down the heat. “I’m heading to Lotivale.”

As long as Stella stayed away from Felasko, she should be fine. Her stepmother wouldn’t dare act up under Robert’s watchful eye.

Carrie rolled her eyes at her. “I can’t believe you’re already missing him. How long has it been since you two parted?”

“Don’t worry. Life is fair. Someday, you’ll feel this way, too,” Madelyn retorted.

“Not a chance.”

Madelyn didn’t argue further and focused on her meal. Near the end of their lunch, Carrie suddenly asked, “Does your mom still dote on Elena?” 

With everything that had been reported, Amelia would surely understand Elena’s true colors by now.

Madelyn’s expression darkened at the mention of Amelia.

Seeing her silence, Carrie pressed on, “Is she crazy? Is she actually ignoring her own daughter and dedicating all her time and effort to care for a mistress‘ daughter?”

Not only did Amelia neglect Madelyn, but she also ignored Bethany. Carrie speculated that Amelia had some kind of mental issue.
