Chapter 9
Jealousy filled Elena’s eyes when Madelyn mentioned she was Andrew’s wife. She had originally wanted to speak up for Madelyn, but now, she decided not to. She threw herself into Amelia’s arms and pretended to sob.
Caleb was already furious, and Elena’s tears only added to it. The fact that Madelyn was throwing Andrew’s weight around made his blood boil. “Are you using Mr. Miller. to threaten me? He’s my son–in–law! What can he do to me?”
“So what if she’s threatening you?” A man’s low voice rang out from the entrance. Andrew, Rowan, and Jason entered, looking icy and aloof.
Caleb was forced to suppress his fury. His face had become so red that he looked like a tomato.
Madelyn was surprised to see Andrew. Then, she ran to him. “What are you doing here, darling?”
Judging from the looks she had seen on Rowan’s and Jason’s faces earlier, she thought the meeting was over something difficult. Who would’ve expected it to only last an hour?
Andrew glanced at her before pulling her into his arms. Then, he gave Caleb a dark look. “What were you going to do to my wife, Mr. Garcia?”
Caleb snapped to his senses. He suddenly felt like he was holding a hot potato instead of a belt. He threw it aside, looking embarrassed. “You’re here, Mr. Miller. I was just asking what happened. I heard about Maddie hitting Elena.”
Andrew was his son–in–law, but Caleb’s tone was cautious and apprehensive as he spoke. He was supposed to have the upper hand over Andrew, but whenever he saw Andrew, he couldn’t help feeling inferior. It was an uncomfortable feeling, but what
could he do about it?
Fortunately, Andrew seemed to be losing patience with Madelyn after her constant clamoring for a divorce. Once it was finalized, Elena would marry Andrew, and life would be easier for Caleb.
Andrew glanced at Elena and Amelia, who were holding each other tightly. His demeanor became even icfer. “What were you going to do with that belt?”
Caleb was confused. Why did he feel like Andrew hadn’t lost his patience with Madelyn? In fact, he seemed to be very protective of her.
Sweat beaded on his forehead. He glanced at Madelyn, obviously hinting at her to

step forward to take the blame. This time, however, she didn’t act like how she would have in her past life.
She had craved their love far too much then and would always defend them. Now, she acted like she didn’t see anything and pressed herself closer to Andrew. “My face hurts, darling.”
Amelia had wanted to hit her earlier, right? She had missed, but the book had gotten
her in the forehead.
The tension thickened at her words, and everyone fell silent. The Garcias gnashed their teeth at Madelyn.
Amelia detested Madelyn, but she was pleased to have Andrew as her son–in–law. Whenever she went to any branded stores, she could just drop his name to get things for free.
Now that she could see Andrew’s attitude toward Madelyn, she got up and hurried to them. “Andrew, things aren’t as they seem. You know what Maddie is like. We were just afraid that she’d cause too much trouble for you and wanted to-”
Wanted to what?
Andrew shot her an icy look, making her swallow the rest of her words. Her face turned red with humiliation.
Elena stood up, looking weak. “This is all a misunderstanding, Andrew.”
She stepped forward so that he could see the bruises on her face. That way, could push all the blame on Madelyn.
she
Madelyn glared at her. How had she not noticed what a scheming bitch Elena was in her past life when it was so obvious?
Elena was about to continue explaining matters to Andrew when Madelyn slapped her hand away. “There isn’t any misunderstanding!”
misunderstanding, Maddie. Please don’t get Mom wrong. She won’t hurt Andrew.
