Since there was no problem with the amusement park itself, the problem had to be with Chris.
Thinking about the scene in my dream and the reason I made this call, I asked Conrad, “Did something happen to Chris?”
Conrad didn’t reply immediately. He said after a pause, “If you really want to know, you can ask him yourself.”
So, it seemed that he was not really foolish. But his words left me at a loss of words.
Conrad was someone who would never make me feel awkward, so he quickly smoothed things over by saying, “What I mean is, even though you’re no longer in a relationship, you’re practically family after so many years.”
“Hmm,” I chuckled softly. “I just didn’t want to make his current girlfriend jealous.”
Conrad laughed too.
“Maddie, when you’re free, let’s have a meal together,” he suggested. Since he had just mentioned that we were like family now, I didn’t refuse.
I sighed in relief after hanging up. It seemed that nothing had happened to Chris. But it was strange that I had that dream. Could it be because of what he asked me yesterday about whether I would be heartbroken if he died someday?
Our ten years together were deeply ingrained in me. It wasn’t something that I could just let go of even if ! wanted to. But Brandon and I had already started our relationship. Chris could only be a part of my past.
I put down my phone and was about to get out of bed when a message from Brandon popped up.
“Are you awake?”
I didn’t reply, but another message came in. “I made breakfast and left it on the table. Remember to eat it and don’t come to the office today.”
Huh? He was new, yet he was speaking like a boss already. But then I thought about his three million annual salary. That was enough to prove that he was a valuable asset to Xander.
