Chapter 336 

My heart sank as I thought about the tests that Ellie had undergone earlier today. “Are the test results unfavorable?” 

Lisa tucked her hands into the pockets of her white coat and shook her head slightly. “Not quite. The issue lies with the donor.” 

I was puzzled. “What do you mean?” 

“The donor is a brain–dead patient on life support. The family had initially consented to donate all organs but has since reversed their decision,” she explained. 

I understood the implications. This donor was a suitable match for Ellie, and if the donation was withdrawn, she would have to wait for another suitable donor, with no certainty on how long that might take. 

“Do you know why they’ve changed their minds?” I inquired. 

Lisa made a dismissive gesture with her lips. “No. We only received a notification. As you know, donor information is confidential.” 

Thinking about Ellie’s anticipation for her new life, I could only imagine how disappointed she would be if she found out that the surgery couldn’t proceed for now. 

At the thought of Brandon being called away, I asked, “Is that what Mr. Marrow wanted to discuss with Brandon?” 

“It’s likely,” Lisa said, giving me a nudge. “Don’t be disheartened. There are certainly alternative solutions, though the transplant will have to be delayed.” 

“I see. If hospitalization can’t be arranged immediately, perhaps we should consider having her discharged temporarily and take her out for a while,” I suggested. 

“You can decide since she’s your sister–in–law,” Lisa teased. 

I nudged her back playfully. “Tell me more about your relationship with Mr. Marrow. How’s it progressing?” 

“What progress? We’ve had only two days off. My shifts and his overtime don’t leave much room for romance between us.” 

Her response made me smile. 

“Will you only take a break when the Earth explodes? How can you possibly nurture a relationship under these conditions?” I teased. 

“Even if it’s difficult, I have to make an effort. I’m already devising strategies,” Lisa said, showing determination.
