The forest was unnervingly quiet, as if the world itself was holding its breath. Aurora stood outside the warded tent where her daughter lay, the faint hum of Selene’s magic a fragile comfort.
Inside, Selene worked tirelessly, her hands weaving new protective sigils in the air. “The bond between you and the child is growing stronger,” she remarked, her voice tense. “That connection will make it harder to hide her if the Lycan King gets too close.”
Aurora felt the pull of the bond like an invisible thread, tugging at her soul. It whispered of destiny, of an unavoidable clash with the darkness that sought to consume them.
Cassian’s voice interrupted her thoughts. “Aurora.” He stood at the edge of the clearing, his eyes scanning the treeline. “I’m sending Nathan and the patrols out tonight. They’ll hold off the first wave if the army tries to breach the borders.”
“And I’m staying here,” Aurora replied firmly.
