Chapter 54
Aurora spent most of the next day in the healer’s quarters, helping Iris and the others tend to the injured. Though the rogues’ last attack had left few physical wounds, the emotional toll on the pack was undeniable. The wolves moved cautiously, their conversations hushed, as if afraid of what might come next.
Iris handed Aurora a small bowl of salve. “Take this to Beta Nathan. He’s been ignoring his injuries again.”
Aurora nodded, though she wasn’t sure how Nathan would react to being fussed over. She found him at the training grounds, sparring with a group of younger wolves. His strikes were sharp and precise, and the younger wolves struggled to keep up.
“Nathan,” Aurora called, approaching cautiously.
He turned, his brows furrowing when he saw her. “What is it?”
Aurora held up the bowl of salve. “Iris said you need this.”
Nathan sighed but didn’t argue, sitting on the edge of a log and allowing Aurora to tend to the scratches on his arm.
“You’re surprisingly persistent,” he muttered as she worked.
“I’ve learned to be,” Aurora replied. “The healer’s quarters are full of stubborn wolves like you.”
Nathan gave a faint smile, but his expression quickly turned serious. “How are you holding up?”
Aurora hesitated. “I’m trying. It’s… difficult.”
Nathan nodded, his gaze distant. “It doesn’t get easier, but you learn to keep going. For the pack. For yourself.”
Aurora looked up at him, surprised by the vulnerability in his voice. “Thank you,” she said softly.
Nathan shrugged, standing as she finished tending to his wounds. “Don’t thank me. Just keep fighting.”
