Chapter 137 Abigail's Husband
With only two days left until the 17th, Patricia was eager to have Abigail married off to John immediately and hastily agreed.
Her joy was short-lived as Herbert asked in a cold voice, "I've heard that the woman you've matched with my son is already married. What's the story with her husband's background?"
Upon learning that the Yannis family had arranged a married woman for John, Herbert initially wanted them to return the money.
However, once John saw Abigail's photo, he was determined to have her and didn't care if she was married or not.
Herbert couldn't sway him and had to agree eventually.
To play it safe, he needed to find out about Abigail's husband's origins and background to avoid any trouble.
Hearing Herbert inquire about Abigail's husband, Patricia feared this might jeopardize the marriage.
She quickly explained, "That girl couldn't possibly be associated with a man of any significance. He's just a pretty boy.
"Don't worry. We've taken the liberty of having her divorce him promptly, and it won't interfere with their wedding plans!"
Still skeptical, Herbert asked, "Really?"
Patricia confidently assured him, "Absolutely! It's all over the internet that he's a kept man. Even if he finds out about Abigail and Mr. John Collins, he wouldn't dare to cross the Collins family!"
Herbert let out a sigh of relief, about to speak, when a panicked cry came from the doorway.
"Mr. Collins, bad news!"
A chubby middle-aged man stumbled in, out of breath.
Herbert glared at him, irritably asking, "What's got you in such a tizzy? Is someone dead?"
The man swallowed hard, reporting in a fluster, "Mr. John Collins... he's been taken away by the police!"
This news didn't faze Herbert much, but Patricia exploded, urgently asking, "Mr. Collins, how could this happen? Can they still get married?"
She didn't want to lose the golden goose she was about to get her hands on.
Herbert's eyes showed a hint of disgust. He coldly said, "You're in such a state because of such a minor issue? It's not his first time dealing with the police."
His subordinate, however, was still uneasy, stammering, "But this time it's different... We didn't see Mr. John Collins. The police took him directly from the cabin on the outskirts. We went to the scene, and there was blood on the ground!"
Herbert's expression also changed slightly.
Patricia cursed, "It must be that ungrateful Abigail who hurt Mr. John Collins and dared to call the police, causing trouble. Next time I see her, I'll teach her a lesson for you!"
"Enough." Herbert waved his hand, signaling her to be quiet.
