Lumma replied, “He said that it depended on his wife and that no one could force her. Nowadays many ordinary men yet still want sons as if they have a throne to pass on. Mr. Hills, however, has a big company to pass on, about his wife’s wishes.”
Ruby said, “This kind of rich, handsome, and devoted man is almost extinct. His wife is blessed to marry him.”
Lumma said, “So, you should give up.”
Ruby countered, “That’s all the more reason for me to hold on.”
Harry grunted.
Ruby said, “Harry, speak your mind straight, and don’t grunt.”
Harry said, “I told you that Adam wasn’t a good person, but neither of you listened:”
Lumma replied, “Okay, okay. Let’s not talk about others. How are you guys doing at home?”
Ruby felt guilty and gave away her emotions. “We’re doing great, just like in previous years. We just feast every day. I think I’ll gain a few pounds after the festival. You can’t laugh at me.”
Ruby’s evasive eyes and stammering confirmed Lumma’s suspicion. Something must have happened to them tonight.
They were trying so hard to hide it from her, so it had to be something related to her.
