Growing up with Ruby and Harry since childhood, Lumma knew what were worried about.
She smiled. “Don’t worry. guys. I’m not the old Lumma anymore. I know what I’m doing. Lucas is my legal husband, and I’m his legal wife. He’s nice to me, and I want to be nice to him. I’ve thought about it. When we meet, I’ll tell him the truth. If he minds my past and doesn’t want to live with me, I’ll respect his choice.”
Harry supported Lumma’s decision. “No matter what, you have to protect yourself and don’t let anyone who isn’t worth it hurt you.”
Ruby added, “Remember that we will always be by your side.”
“I know,” Lumma replied.
The three of them chatted for a while before ending the call.
Lumma put down her phone and lay on her bed, unable to fall asleep.
She knew too well what Harry and Ruby were worried about. Because of that incident, she was once unwilling to trust any man other than Harry.
She hadn’t mentioned it, but deep down, she had been repulsive to men, especially those with smooth tongues. She had felt that there was no truth in their words.
As time passed, she met more people, saw more of the world, and understood more of life. By and by, she could barely remember that man in the past.
What Harry had said earlier was right. She shouldn’t let anyone who wasn’t worth it hurt her.
That man was just an insignificant passerby in her life. She had known him for less than a year and spent even less time with him. Why should she change her view of men because of such an insignificant person?
As Lumma was lost in thought, her phone vibrated to indicate that she had received a new message.
She checked it out and found it was a message from Lucas. [Are you asleep?]
Lumma: [No, I’m thinking about things and can’t sleep.]
Lucas: [What’s on your mind?]
Lumma’s slender fingers moved across the screen as she typed out a long string of words, wanting to tell him what had happened before, but in the end, she deleted them one by one.
