Manfred pursed thin lips, quietly looking at her, as if thinking of something.
After a while, he said softly, “It's not that I am forgetful, but that I have never cheated you. What are you talking about?”
Alice reminded him.
“Wasn't you behind that party?” If not because of that party, how could she and Kennedy had misunderstanding?
Although she knew that if they trusted each other, it would not be a problem.
However, how could Alice not to suspect Manfred?
After all, Reynold still wanted her to spy on Kennedy, and Manfred was there, so she couldn't believe he was so innocent.
Manfred froze.
Like he could not believe it, he was stunned at first and then he was sad.
Finally, he lowered his eyes and began to laugh in a low, self-deprecating grin.
“So that's what you thought.”
“I always thought so.” Alice looked at him and said, “So, can we cancel our cooperation now? Whatever your purpose is, five years ago or now, I don't want to be your victim again.”
Manfred slowly raised his head, suddenly grabbed her hand on the table. As Alice felt his palm, she was stunned and then drew back her hand subconsciously.
But Manfred clenched her hand more tightly, staring at her without anger.
He was no longer gentle but became melancholy.
“You said I was behind the party, do you think I cause that car accident too?”
Alice was stunned when hearing that and she froze in place.
Thinking of that car accident in those days, Alice's face went pale. Her lips moved. Looking at Manfred, she was speechless.
Of course she did not think he was responsible for that accident.
The car accident was an accident, but what happened before?
All of a sudden, Alice felt she went too far, after all, he was desperate to save her. If not him, she would be badly hurt.
Thinking of that, Alice lowered her eyes.
“Sorry, I...”
“All right.” Manfred interrupted her and smiled. “You know, no matter what you do or say, I won't blame you.”
Alice raised her head and looked at him painfully.
Because he was like this, Alice did not want to recognize him.
Because whatever she said to him, he thought it didn't matter and he would forgive her.
Alice suddenly stood up and said in a cold voice, “Don't always be like this. Why aren’t you angry about my words? Do you think I will feel guilty because you're not angry? I am sorry you're really going to be disappointed. I gotta go”
With that, Alice turned and walked away.
Manfred, his face slightly changed, got up and ran after her.
“Charlotte......”
“Don't call me Charlotte!”
“Alice, I'm not who you think I am. No matter what you think, I did make a mistake, and what I want to do now is to make up for what I did to you.”
“No, it's been five years and it's been what it's been. As long as we do not meet again, I will not blame you.”
