"Too much? What do you even mean by that? Explain it to me," he said, his voice laced with mock curiosity.
King realized he had a knack for getting under women's skin. Just a few words and they were often left speechless with rage. The more upset they got, the more entertained he felt.
Brielle was experiencing her first trip abroad. She had always been so careful around the Haywood family, living as if she was walking on eggshells to avoid displeasing anyone. She was, as King mockingly pointed out, the perfect student—rigid, rule-abiding, never straying off the path.
Maybe there was a moment at Beaconsfield College when she thought about stepping out of line, but she quickly corrected herself. Now, faced with this situation abroad, she was utterly unprepared. How could a bookworm like her possibly stand up to someone like him? She was left speechless.
King found her struggle amusing. The more defiant she became, the more intriguing she was to him. When he first saw her, she had this icy demeanor, like a flower perched high on a branch, unattainable. Now, that facade was starting to crack.
"Why so quiet, Ms. Perfect? Thinking of calling the cops? Have you thought about the consequences?"
At this point, Brielle was too young, too inexperienced, easily provoked by his taunts. But she knew that engaging with him would only make things worse. She turned to face the wall, her voice softening into a plea.
"Max, please, don't do this."
King stiffened, then chuckled. "So, you do remember my name."
A wave of unspoken joy washed over him. She was becoming more appealing by the second. Pulling her close, he suggested, "An exchange student, huh? How about attending your classes online from now on? Spend the rest of your time with me."
Brielle's heart skipped a beat. She tried to stay calm and even attempted to dial for help with one hand, but King quickly seized her hand and snatched her phone away. He held her tight, nibbling at her neck.
"Come with me, I'll give you whatever you want."
He was relieved that Max hadn't interfered at this point. If Max had woken up to find himself holding a woman, it might have spelled the end for her. Max was unromantic, unlike him.
