“Hey, Joey,” Kailee’s voice cut through the air, laced with impatience. “Why are you beating around the bush today? You’re not about to tell me you’ve got a girlfriend, are you? Please, just no. I’m finally over my latest crush, and I don’t want to lose my big brother to some girl.”

Joseph rubbed his temples, feeling as if a fly was buzzing incessantly around his ear. So much noise.
