Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) novel Chapter 1386

The proposal was set, and King couldn't wait to get back. He was eager to spend every moment he could with Brielle.

Meanwhile, Jaired was trying to convince Andrew to hang around for a few drinks.

"Forget about playing chef for once, man," Jaired teased, seeing Andrew's determination to leave. "Bros before... well, you know the saying. You could try a hundred times, but Aubree's just not into you. Stick with me tonight, and we're brothers for life."

Andrew's face darkened as he shook off Jaired's hand. "Get lost! We're not brothers."

Jaired was left feeling down. Why did everyone else have something—or someone—they cared about, while he was just floating aimlessly?

When King returned to Premier Palace, the hall was empty. He headed straight to the room where Noir was staying and, sure enough, found a heartwarming scene.

Isaac was grooming Noir's fur while Brielle was busy with a trash bag, the mother and son working together in seamless harmony.

King couldn't help but chuckle at the sight, feeling a warmth spread through his chest. "Why are you still up?" he asked.

Isaac looked up at his arrival. "We're on watch. The vet said Noir's due any day now. Can't sleep knowing she might need us."

Brielle was more than happy to join in the vigil.

King moved to their side, fetching a shorter stool to save them from aching legs.

After a while, Noir successfully delivered three healthy pups. Brielle and Isaac quickly swapped the soiled bedding for a clean one, making everything cozy again for the new family.

By three in the morning, Isaac could barely keep his eyes open. Now that he knew Noir and her pups were safe, sleep was overtaking him.

Brielle cradled him. "Time for bed, little cricket. We can visit Noir first thing in the morning."

Isaac, half-asleep and comforted by the familiar gentle voice, leaned against Brielle and dozed off. "Okay, mommy."

Brielle froze, wondering if she'd heard him right. It was as if time stood still, and she was rooted to the spot, overwhelmed by emotion.
