King had a lot on his mind with the proposal looming, but he stuck to his word. When bedtime rolled around, he cuddled up and drifted off to sleep, just like he promised.
Brielle was a bit surprised, ready for him to try and find a way out of it. But now, seeing him lying next to her, his arms wrapped around her, she felt her heart melt.
The next morning, Brielle and Isaac went to check on Noir and her newborns. Neither dared to touch the tiny kittens, knowing their eyes hadn't even opened yet.
Isaac was filled with wonder, especially when Noir nuzzled his fingers, clearly happy.
"Don't worry, little buddy. With Wesley whipping up all those tasty meals every day, Noir and her babies are going to be healthy and chubby."
Isaac clutched her sleeve, nodding enthusiastically.
The news of Noir's litter had Wesley over the moon. He was just looking for a way to channel his energy. He pampered the furry family with three different meals a day, ensuring they were comfortable and well-fed.
The next day, Brielle received a call from Mason about an online meeting. Her memory was almost fully back, so she promptly returned to her study and booted up her computer.
It had been a while since she had spoken to Mason, especially after the incident at Max's, which had left her in a rough state. She had only visited Mason once with King during that time.
Turning on her webcam, she was startled by the sight of the young man on the screen. In her memory, Mason and Ricardo had a similar vibe. The difference was that Mason seemed like a fresh college graduate, untouched by the harshness of the world.
In contrast, Ricardo, being an assassin, had a facade of cleanliness and brightness that felt odd at times. Brielle remembered thinking Mason was still a student during their first meeting.
Yet there he was, having set up his own studio outside of college. He was a boy of action, somewhat naive and inexperienced with the opposite sex. But now, the man on the screen was dressed sharply, his gaze carrying a certain heaviness, as if he had matured overnight.
"Brielle," he greeted.
It took her a moment to process that the person in front of her was indeed Mason, and she nodded slightly.
"Hi, I'm here. Anything new with the company?"
Mason was joined by other top executives of Unicorn, all looking quite serious and on edge. This made Brielle tense up as well.
"Mason, is something going on inside the company? You all look like you haven't slept well."
