Outside a cluster of villages, a dozen military vehicles screeched to a halt. From them emerged Gloam Wing members dressed in pitch-black combat gear, their hands gripping an assortment of firearms as they stormed into the homes.

"Stop! What are you doing?" A young man holding a hoe shouted as he saw the Gloam Wing members approaching.

Alas, his answer was a gunshot, followed by a cold declaration, "Obstructing the Gloam Wing in the execution of our duties is punishable by immediate death."

It was harvest season in the village, and everyone, from the elderly to the women, was out in the fields working alongside the men. They looked at the golden, ripe wheat with satisfied smiles.

They had long grown weary of cultivating Night Vine, a crop that had turned their loved ones into something less than human, neither fully alive nor dead. Their hatred for the Night Vine had reached its peak, which was why Matthew's directive to eradicate it had been so easily embraced.

"How much have you harvested, Gus?"

"Aunt Ruth, we've planted ten acres of wheat, and so far, we've only harvested two," a brawny man replied, wiping sweat from his brow with a towel draped around his neck, grinning broadly.

As the villagers chatted while harvesting, a gunshot suddenly rang out, echoing through the sky, causing their faces to pale with fear.

They quickly dropped their sickles and rushed back to the village, only to find that their family members who had stayed behind were now being held at gunpoint by a group of men dressed in black.
