"Selena, try saying one more word!" Everett suddenly snapped at her.
Selena was caught off guard, her heart pounding in her chest. She clutched it, wondering why she couldn't just speak her mind. Was Everett having his special monthly time as well?
Lately, Everett was like a walking powder keg, ready to explode at any moment, and she couldn't figure out why! In small towns like theirs, gossip spread faster than wildfire. If they started arguing here, it would be the talk of the town in no time.
Selena took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. She spoke to him evenly, "This place isn't quite like the bustling Newport you're used to. Can you just make do for now?"
"No."
Selena felt her temper rising. This was the best bridal shop in town, and it was what it was. Why was he nitpicking like there was no tomorrow.
Seriously, as the bride, she wasn't even complaining. What was this guy fussing about?
"So, what do you want?" she asked, eyes scanning the room. "If you want to cancel the banquet, fine by me. We can cover the cost. Don't worry, I'll pay for it myself!"
After all, the neighbors had already witnessed her husband come home yesterday, which was enough to quiet them down.
Everett saw right through her and ignored her, pulling out his phone to make a call.
By 6 pm, Derick showed up at the Irwin house with an entire styling team.
The news spread like wildfire, and soon, a crowd gathered to join the fun.
Everett was in high spirits that night. Normally, he wouldn't bother with toasts from many high-profile folks, but tonight, he clinked glasses with everyone. And he meant it. It’s not just taking a polite sip.
By the end of the night, he was quite tipsy, barely able to walk straight. Derick had to help him back to his room with some effort.
Grace was over the moon. Her day couldn't have gone better. Everyone buttered her up, saying how handsome and wealthy her son-in-law was and how well he treated Selena. They said Selena was lucky to have snagged such a good man.
Holding Selena's hand, Grace’s eyes crinkled with laughter, and she said, "Selena, now I can rest easy knowing you're in good hands. You two must take care of each other. If he's busy, you need to be understanding and don't be too stubborn. A good husband like this is rare. Hold on to him tight."
