She knew it would be lively, but even her best guess fell short of reality.
The place was packed, with layers upon layers of people, especially young women dressed to impress. Their faces were glowing with excitement as they snapped endless photos in one direction on their phones.
It was unmistakably a celebrity frenzy!
Selena was puzzled, wondering which celebrity would bother coming to their small town for a gig.
Curiosity piqued, she tried to peer over the sea of heads, but there were just too many people, and even on her tiptoes, she couldn't catch a glimpse of who it was.
Just then, a girl stumbled out of the crowd, losing her balance, and Selena, quick on her feet, reached out to steady her.
The girl turned, ready to thank Selena, but when she saw her, her eyes sparkled, and she exclaimed with delight, “Selena, you’re here too!”
Selena recognized the lively face as Lily, her neighbor's daughter Smiling, she nodded and asked, “Who’s everyone here for? Which celebrity?”
“It’s not a celebrity!” Lily’s cheeks turned rosy with excitement. “It’s Dr. Campbell! He’s so dreamy. My friends and I came to see him, but it's too crowded to get through!”
Dr. Campbell, of all people!
Selena was momentarily surprised, but then it clicked. With his good looks, Dr. Campbell could easily outshine the entertainment world's heartthrobs—no wonder the young girls were smitten.
Suddenly, Lily, struck by a thought, grabbed Selena’s hand. “Selena, you’re close with Callum, right? Can you please get his autograph for me? And maybe a photo?”
Selena sighed, a familiar feeling. Fan girls really did have the same playbook.
Watching the scene unfold with amusement, Grace teased, “Lily, Callum is old enough to be your dad!”
Lily stood firm. “If he’s handsome and tall, age doesn’t matter. He’s a hottie!”
Selena replied with a quick “OK” emoji.
…
Selena thought it was only right to bring something, so she left her grandma with Lily and headed to a nearby drink shop.
She had planned to bring Callum a coffee because she remembered him sipping one at the airport when they first met. But there were only juice shops around, so she settled for three cups of juice.
Her grandma couldn’t have any because of her high blood sugar.
She carried the juice to the lake and spotted Callum already there, his back to her, facing the water. A gentle breeze caught his white coat, highlighting his long legs beneath.
For a moment, it was like a scene from a drama. Just as Lily had said, he was the perfect picture of a hottie from a TV series.
