Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 135

Bennett Corporation, Conference Room.

Everett leaned back in his chair, casually listening to his team's enthusiastic presentation. A quick glance at his watch told him it was almost noon.

But still, no sign of Selena.

Was she really double-crossing him? Did she take the money and run?

He picked up his phone, ready to message her and check where she was. But first, he noticed a message from Jaime.

Jaime, always stirring the pot, had sent: [Who’d have thought the great Mr. Bennett would get the cold shoulder from his wife? She deleted that lovey-dovey post from her social media!]

Everett paused, then quickly checked his social media.

After refreshing it a few times, the post was gone. Instead, he saw that Selena had just liked a new post by Callum.

Almost the moment it went up, there was her like. That used to be his privilege!

With a cold sneer, Everett tossed his phone onto the table.

His team jumped at the sound, shooting worried looks his way, especially Mr. Hawkings, who was sweating bullets.

Stammering, he asked, “Mr. Bennett, is there… a problem?”

“Everything’s a problem!” Everett snapped. “I gave you a huge budget, and this is the trash you give me? If you’re not going to use your brain at work, don’t bother showing up!”

The room fell silent, not a sound to be heard. Even Derick didn’t dare breathe too hard.

Sure, the proposal wasn’t perfect, but it wasn’t trash either. What had set Mr. Bennett off like this?

“Get me a new proposal by the end of the day, or hand in your resignation!”

With that, Everett got up and stormed out, leaving his team in shocked silence.

Everett’s dark eyes fixed on her. “I need to check what you brought. Who knows if you’ve tried to pull a fast one?”

Selena rolled her eyes. Did he really think she’d give him a chance to take advantage of her again?

She opened the lunchbox, arranged everything neatly, and handed him the fork. “Go ahead, check it.”

Everything was legit; she wasn’t worried.

Everett took the fork, speared a piece of steak, chewed it briefly before spitting it out, and threw the fork down.

“Selena, what did you make? It’s terrible!”

Selena was startled, not expecting such a reaction. She hadn’t put as much care into it as before, but it was far from “terrible.”

Feeling both irritated and hurt, she shot back, “I told you if you don’t like my cooking, let Ava do it. But no, you insisted, and now you complain. What’s your problem?”
