Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 181

The car rolled up to the club's entrance, its polished exterior gleaming under the dim lights. The doorman, ever attentive, rushed over to swing the door open.

Selena glanced up at the grand entrance, her hand resting on her knee, tensing up without her even realizing it. For a moment, she sat still.

Then, suddenly, Everett's tall figure filled the doorway, blocking her view. He extended his hand to her, saying, "Come on out."

Selena's eyes lingered on his hand—strong, with well-defined knuckles. His broad palm seemed like it could promise endless security. Almost as if in a trance, she gently placed her hand in his, allowing him to guide her inside.

They walked through the club, stopping only when they reached the door of the private room where everything had gone down. Everett glanced at Selena, picking up on the subtle fear flickering in her eyes. Refusing to let her back away, he held her hand firmly and pushed the door open.

The room was bright as day, every corner vividly clear. Inside were five people. Two of them stood, looking familiar. They were Everett's bodyguards, and a rare sight, always lurking in the shadows, known to only a select few.

Kneeling on the floor, tightly bound, was the boss who had harassed her and his two henchmen. The room had been too dark that night for her to make out the boss’ face, but the two goons were unforgettable. Their images burned into her memory forever.

Everett's deep voice resonated beside her, "It's them, isn't it?"

Selena pressed her lips together, "Yeah."

Everett looked down at Jimmy, his tone icy, "Jimmy, enlighten me. What big-deal project did your company and Bennett Corporation team up on, that I'd be willing to throw my own wife into the mix as a bargaining chip?"

Everyone in Newport knew Everett—he was someone both the cops and the crooks had to tiptoe around. But it was no secret that Everett didn't exactly hold Mrs. Bennett in high regard and had his heart set elsewhere, making her appear vulnerable to disrespect.

Jimmy had once spotted Selena at a party and was instantly captivated by her beauty and long legs. Initially cautious, he grew bold upon hearing she wasn't exactly treasured. He figured if he could just get her into bed and snag some compromising videos, she'd have no choice but to play along.

So, after dinner one night, he lured Selena out using Everett's name. What he didn't expect was her fierceness—she left him with a bloody head and kicked him so hard he was nearly incapacitated.
