Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 272

He didn't beat around the bush, "Selena, what's your game plan here? You can't keep him in the dark forever."

The "him" he referred to was, of course, Everett.

After waking up from her injury, Selena had been basking in Everett's tender care, pushing aside the harsh realities, until Callum brought her back to earth.

Selena sighed softly, closing her eyes. "I know."

Her hand instinctively rested on her belly. She hesitated before continuing, "Everett's never wanted kids. At first... I thought I'd leave and raise the baby on my own, but... after I got hurt, Everett's been incredibly kind, truly kind."

Memories flooded her mind.

Everett fretted over her and stood up to Rebecca for her sake. He was known as a notorious workaholic but rushed back to ensure she wasn’t being mistreated.

Stuff like that was unheard of before.

Feelings grow with time, maybe... Everett was slowly starting to care about her.

"Dr. Campbell, Everett didn't accept me as his wife before, but now he does. Maybe if I find the right moment to be upfront about the baby, he might actually want to keep it?"

Her eyes danced with a glimmer of hope. "Grandpa is really looking forward to having a grandchild, isn’t he?"

Callum met her hopeful gaze, his lips opening but words failing him.

"Dr. Campbell? What's up?"

Sensing his hesitation, Selena frowned, "You think he won't want my child?"

Callum and Everett had shared a childhood. Though they were love rivals, they were also the closest of friends who understood each other like no one else. Selena anxiously awaited his response.

Still, Everett wasn't buying it, a cold smile playing on his lips. "He's a heart specialist, not a brain doctor. What's there to chat about?"

Selena was at a loss.

Seeing the tension, Callum decided it was time to make himself scarce. He casually said, "Everett, Selena, I should get back to my rounds. I’ll leave you two to speak."

He gave them a nod and left the room.

Selena watched him leave, guilt written all over her face. Just as she turned to confront Everett, he suddenly leaned in, his hands gripping her shoulders as he pressed her down onto the bed, capturing her lips with a passionate intensity.

His kiss was fierce and demanding. Selena struggled for breath, trying to push him away.

Finally breaking free a bit, she gasped, "Everett, can you stop being so harsh? Are you just jealous?"
