At the heart of it all, they didn't really harbor any deep-seated grudge against each other—it was just a marriage gone wrong. Since they couldn't go on like this, it was time to set things straight.
"If you're still not satisfied, I'll walk away with nothing. I'll even tell everyone it's my fault. Whatever you want from me, just say the word, as long as you let me and the baby go. I'll do anything!"
She was drained, completely worn out. She didn't want to be stuck in this endless back-and-forth anymore.
"Huh." Everett chuckled softly.
Did she really think he cared about some shares and money?
"Selena, if I say you're going to play the role of Mrs. Bennett, then that's what you'll do. Just like earlier—if I want to kiss you, I will; if I want to sleep with you, I will. That's what being Mrs. Bennett means!"
"Think it over. Do you want to live peacefully with me, or keep up this fight? If it's a fight you want, I'm all in!"
Selena stared at him, momentarily lost. The thin veil of peace between them had finally torn apart. From start to finish, he only craved her; there was no love.
Not even a tiny bit!
And there she was, a poor soul loving someone she could never have.
She didn't say another word; she just smiled—a smile at her own foolish heart, a smile at her hopeless dreams of changing him.
In the end, he was just a man without a heart.
Everett climbed into his car, fired up the engine, and floored it. The car roared down the road.
The black Rolls-Royce Cullinan blended into the night like a ghost.
In the VIP room of the bar, Jaime watched as Everett came in and started drinking without a word, his face as dark as a storm cloud. He thought to himself: What a mess!
Everett's dark gaze swept over, cold as ice.
Jaime shivered, realizing if he pushed any further, he'd be in the line of fire. He raised his hands in surrender, "Alright, alright, I'll shut up. Let's just drink tonight, only drink!"
He eagerly opened the most expensive bottle and poured a full glass for Everett, then handed it over with a playful falsetto, "Your Majesty, please drink."
The phone on the coffee table suddenly buzzed.
Everett paused as he reached for the glass, his eyes quickly darting to the phone screen.
Was Selena finally ready to back down?
But as soon as he saw the caller ID, his mood darkened once again.
