Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 289

Every day, Callum made it a point to check in with her doctor about her health, but hearing it from Selena herself meant so much more to him.

“Much better,” Selena replied with a gentle smile. “The baby’s doing great too, so relax.”

Seeing that smile slowly return to her face eased Callum’s worries a bit. He glanced outside at the beautiful weather and suggested, “It’s gorgeous out today. How about we take a little stroll?”

Selena glanced outside instinctively, and the idea instantly appealed to her.

It felt like forever since she’d enjoyed the fresh air and warm sunshine. Honestly, she was starting to feel cooped up.

“Sure, that sounds nice.”

“Great, let me get you set up.”

Callum fetched a wheelchair from the corner, carefully helped Selena out of bed, made sure she was cozy, and draped a thick blanket over her knees before wheeling her towards the door.

But just as they got to the door, two bodyguards stepped in their way.

One of them, looking a bit conflicted, said, “Ma’am, Mr. Everett has instructed us to ensure you stay in the room and rest for recovery.”

Selena’s mood took a nosedive. “Is Everett protecting me or treating me like a prisoner?”

Was she not even allowed to enjoy a little sunshine outside?

“Uh…”

The bodyguards exchanged awkward glances, unsure of what to say.

Selena took a deep breath, calming herself before continuing, “I know you’re just doing your job. You know Dr. Campbell. We’re only going for a quick walk downstairs. Nothing will happen. If you’re worried, you can follow us from a distance.”

Callum chimed in, “Being cooped up in bed isn’t exactly ideal for healing.”

With that, the bodyguards reluctantly stepped aside, letting them through.

Plans…

Selena echoed the word, a touch of irony in her voice. “You saw for yourself… What plans could I possibly make?”

Everett had the bodyguards watching her every move, not just to prevent another kidnapping, but to ensure she didn’t entertain any thoughts she shouldn’t—like divorce or leaving.

He’d made it abundantly clear that night; he wasn’t having any of it!

Callum understood her unspoken words perfectly. He reached out, this time without hesitation, and gently rested his hand on her shoulder.

“Selena, do you want to leave Everett?”

He paused, then added with conviction, “If you trust me and want to get away, I’m here to help you.”

The unexpected offer left Selena stunned, her eyes instinctively locking onto his.
