Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 408

Everett was, after all, a businessman with logic always taking the lead over emotion. He didn't give in right away, just said, “Selena, let me think it over a bit more. Let's head home for now.”

Selena knew that some things couldn't be rushed. She nodded gently, “Alright, let’s go home.”

Though the phrase was simple, when she said it, it carried an extra touch of warmth.

Everett playfully tapped her perky nose with his long finger before scooping her up like a princess and striding away.

In the quiet of the night.

Selena slowly opened her eyes while nestled in his arms, gently moved his arm from around her waist, and propped herself up slightly. She reached over to the nightstand and grabbed a candy wrapper.

She carefully unfolded it and studied the drawing on it for a while.

It was a child, smiling with eyes full of joy, incredibly endearing.

But this image was just a drawing, not real.

After a moment, she crumpled the candy wrapper into a ball and tossed it into the trash.

Then she lay back down, snuggling into his embrace, and closed her eyes.

The next morning, the sun was shining brightly.

Selena woke up feeling refreshed, all her discomfort gone. After freshening up and throwing on a coat, she headed downstairs.

From afar, she caught a whiff of the familiar aroma of breakfast.

Selena quickly covered Ava’s mouth, worried she’d be sent away again just after returning!

Then she spoke up, “What’s done is done, no point in complaining. The baby wouldn’t like hearing us grumble. Let’s not talk about this anymore. Maybe it’s Mateo watching over us, knowing we’re sad and sending us another blessing.”

“Anyway, this time, I’ll make sure to be extra careful, protect this little one, and bring it into the world safe and sound.”

Everett was descending the stairs, watching Selena chat with Ava in the living room, her back to him. He took each step slowly, taking in every word she spoke.

Until Ava quietly asked, “So, madam, you’re just going to let the boss off the hook? Not going to hold him accountable for his past mistakes?”

He paused mid-step, his hand lightly resting on the banister, waiting for Selena’s response.
