Selena glanced up at him, a faint smile dancing on her lips as she confidently laid out the paper for him to see.
"Thinking of names," she said.
He peeked over and indeed saw a few names scribbled down.
With a light chuckle, he remarked, "Isn't it a bit early for that? The baby's only a month along; we don't even know if it's a boy or a girl yet."
But Selena shook her head and reasoned, "You said you hoped for a girl last time. I hope for a girl too. Look at the Bennett family's little princesses—they're so beautiful and happy. I want our daughter to have a beautiful and blessed name too, so we've got to start thinking ahead."
Everett laughed and pulled her onto his lap, saying, "You've got a point."
He wrapped his arms around her and rested his head in the nook of her shoulder, diving into the name brainstorming session. The last time they had done this was for naming Mateo, but he hadn't been as engaged back then.
This time felt different; this child was something he truly wished for and was cherished deeply.
If it turned out to be a girl, even better—soft and sweet just like Selena, calling him 'Dad' in her little voice. He'd do anything for her, even bring down the stars if she asked for them.
Selena went through many names, not quite satisfied, and crossed them off one by one. Suddenly, inspiration struck her.
Turning to him, she suggested, "If the brother is Mateo, how about we call the sister Haley? What do you think?"
Her eyelashes fluttered like butterfly wings, captivating and beautiful. Everett teasingly lifted her chin with his finger and said, "It's poetic, sounds lovely."
Selena decided right then, "Haley it is."
Everett's lips moved slightly, softly repeating the name, feeling his heart melt a little.
"Everett," she softly called.
Selena quickly opened the camera, lifted it to a good angle, and wrapped her arm around Everett's neck, planting a kiss on his cheek.
With a click, the photo was captured.
She swiftly edited the picture, making herself look even more stunning, then opened his messaging app and posted it to his social feed.
The caption read: Us, a family of three!
Everett propped his face on his hand, watching her playful antics, unsure whether to be annoyed or amused.
Most of his contacts on the messaging app were business associates, and he rarely chatted with them outside work matters. He had never posted anything so personal, let alone something this cheesy and affectionate.
As expected, just after Selena posted it, his feed lit up with a string of question marks, followed by playful comments from friends.
