Selena didn't have the patience for him. She was clueless about why he'd ditched his new girl to come looking for her, but his presence was definitely a red flag. Yet, Everett wasn't the type to back down. He swiftly opened the car door, unbuckled her seatbelt, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her out with ease.
By the time Selena realized what was happening, she found herself pinned against the car by his towering, muscular frame. She had no choice but to lean back, revealing her slender, pale neck. The graceful curve of her shoulders and neck always mesmerized him whenever she was beneath him. He couldn't resist lingering there, leaving his mark over and over.
When she tilted her head back in ecstasy, gasping, she was so stunning it made his heart race, making him want to make her a part of him. His gaze was intense.
After years of marriage, Selena could easily read what his look meant. Embarrassed and annoyed, she pushed him away. "What do you think you're doing?" she snapped.
Everett didn't show any sign of embarrassment at being caught. Instead, he masked all emotions, as if Selena had imagined his earlier expression. He loosened his grip slightly but still kept her trapped between the car and his chest, looking down at her flushed cheeks.
His tone was laid-back, "After all, we were married. Shouldn't you at least say something when you come back?"
His tone was like a casual chat between exes who split on good terms. But was that really necessary for them?
Selena had no clue what he was thinking, nor did she care to find out. She coolly corrected him, "That's ancient history. The best exes should feel like they're long gone, right?"
Though he hated to admit it, he hoped she'd deny it. It was one thing for Selena to stay away, but her sudden return threw him off. He couldn't just ignore it.
He desperately wanted to know if she was really with Callum! His words were a tangled mess of resentment and probing...
Selena's face suddenly darkened. She and Dr. Campbell weren't what the rumors made them out to be, nor what Everett insinuated.
