Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 493

For the past three years, his life had been so uneventful that he couldn't muster any interest in romance, leading Jaime to often tease him about whether he still had it in him. But now, just thinking about her made his whole body tense up and heat with anticipation. He wanted to call Selena, but he knew she probably wouldn’t pick up. So, he ended up striding purposefully into the bathroom.

As the steam enveloped him, he thought about the woman he loved and hated in equal measure, and finally let himself go...

---

Early that morning, Selena made a special trip to the flower market. She picked out a beautiful bunch of flowers, wrapped them with care, and then drove to the cemetery. She gently placed the bouquet in front of Josh's gravestone, took out a wet wipe, and tenderly cleaned the dust from his photograph. His voice and smile felt so close, yet they belonged to another time.

Three years ago, when Josh passed, she couldn’t make it back to say her final goodbye. It was a heartache that lingered. But she understood; Josh had done what he did for her sake. Once he decided to leave, it had to be a clean break, leaving no room for anything else. Otherwise, with Everett's intense nature, things could have spiraled out of control.

Both she and Everett had been their grandfather’s favorites, and he wouldn’t have wanted them to end up at odds like this.

Selena knelt on the ground and sincerely bowed three times.

"Grandpa, thank you."

It was thanks to him that she could reunite with Mateo and live a peaceful life. Her grandfather had gone to great lengths to make things right, living up to his promise to correct his own mistakes. If only Everett, that stubborn man, could learn even a fraction of what Grandpa had taught... Maybe things wouldn’t have come to this.

Just as she was about to say goodbye, a chilling voice suddenly broke the silence behind her—

"Who’s the child you’re talking about?"

Selena froze, her spine going rigid. She didn’t need to turn around to know that Everett’s piercing gaze was locked on her, sharp enough to cut through her defenses.

Everett… What on earth was he doing here?
