Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 502

Selena let out a scoff.

"Mr. Everett, what's the deal? It's just a fling, right? We're all grown-ups here, not some teenagers acting all innocent. Or are you feeling a bit out of your depth?"

She put on a casual air. "Or are you suggesting, Mr. Everett, that you've had a change of heart and now you're after a real romance with me? That's cool with me, as long as you're ready to play along."

Everett's lips pressed into a tight line, his normally sharp eyes, which could usually see right through people, now unable to tell if she was bluffing or trying to get a rise out of him.

The Selena he used to know was so innocent and bashful when it came to matters of the heart, mostly letting him take the lead. Even when she did respond to his affections, there was still a hint of tradition in her. She believed in love and desire going hand in hand, never one for casual flings.

Suddenly, Everett chuckled.

The man who seemed just about ready to explode a second ago now cloaked himself in calm, his emotions hidden deep.

With a mysterious smile, he said, "A stint overseas really changes a person, huh? Alright, Selena, if you want to play, let's see how far you'll go."

Selena almost let out a curse.

This guy was seriously a tough nut to crack.

But she had a pretty good idea of what was going through his mind.

His macho attitude hadn’t budged an inch. Maybe it was because he was used to being on top, but he had this intense need for control and couldn’t stand the idea of losing it, or... getting tainted.

If she wanted to come out on top of this game, unscathed, she had to think outside the box.

Selena didn't give Everett any more time to size her up. She slipped out of his hold and pushed him back into a chair.

His dark eyes grew even darker, filled with swirling emotions.

His hand gripped the back of her head, taking the lead.

Gradually, he wanted more. He scooped Selena up and carried her upstairs to the master bedroom.

When Selena landed on the soft bed, her limbs felt weak, her head spinning. She could sense Everett’s growing passion and heat, his eyes on her like a predator watching its prey, ready to pounce and devour.

For a moment, she thought about running away.

But then she remembered her uncle, waiting for life-saving surgery, and little Mateo back in Germany, eagerly waiting for her return. They were her beloved family.
