Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 586

Under the dim glow, Selena's face was hard to read. After mulling it over, she softly said, "You're little Mateo's dad. If you don't come home tonight, he'll be thinking about you all the time."

This wasn't what Everett wanted to hear. "And what about you?" he pressed on stubbornly. Selena opened her mouth but didn't say anything, not even a little white lie. She turned away.

Everett's eyes were full of deep disappointment and frustration. Almost shouting, he demanded, "Selena, how much longer are you going to keep freezing me out? What's your heart made of?" His voice was heavy with tension. "Aren't you worried you'll push me into someone else's arms again?"

Unrequited love can't go the distance.

At his words, Selena's dark eyes flashed like they were on fire. For a moment, Everett thought she still cared, feeling a flicker of hope, only for her to say coldly, "Everett, if you're going to fool around, at least keep it under wraps! Clean up your mess!"

"Don't let rumors spread, and don't let little Mateo find out. If you hurt our child over this, I won't let it slide!"

Everett's lips tightened into a hard line, and he felt a surge of frustration. She really knew how to push his buttons!

"So, even if I do have affairs, you really don't care, do you?"

Selena lowered her gaze. Then she let out a soft laugh, "Do you think I can control you?"

If she could have, things wouldn't have ended so badly three years ago.

"You just don't want to control me," Everett shot back, grabbing her neck gently to make her look at him. He kissed her hard, as if to punish her. "You bad woman, you're just banking on the fact that I can't leave you," he muttered, frustrated.

Selena winced in pain and tried to push him away. They'd been at odds for a while, and he hadn't been close to her in days. Now, being near her, he couldn't help himself. Ignoring her resistance, he caught her wrist and eased her down onto the couch.

Selena didn't meet his eyes, instead she relented, "Let's go home."

The man lay on top of her, his breathing heavy. He stared at her for a long time before, even though he was tense with desire, he fixed her shirt and wrapped his coat around her. Then he scooped her up in his arms.

The car was already waiting at the door. When Selena was carried out, she buried her face in his chest, embarrassed.

Jaime, who was at the bar chatting up some girls, saw them and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Maybe, as long as one side is willing to bend a little, without outside interference, love can find its way back. Life is long; no one can stay stone-hearted forever.

Back at Moon Bay, as soon as they reached the entrance, Everett couldn't wait to hold her close and kiss her deeply, continuing the embrace as they headed upstairs.
